Aging Parents

Phrillie

Hello, babblers. I've watched this site for a while and decided it was time to dip my toe in. My current area of interest is this: aging parents. Does this belong in the health section?

We are having a lot of trouble with my aging (deteriorating) father and I'm quite sure our issues aren't unique. I would love to get some input from others. Any takers?

Welcome, Phrillie. Since there is no health forum on babble, my vote is for "Body and Soul" or "babblers helping babblers". I'm sure some other moderator with the power to move threads and make such decisions will be along soon and move it.

As for your issue, I'm having some similar issues with an aging grandmother who lives in a city 500 miles away from me, my mom and my sister. There are many challenges such as refusing help and assistance to a gradual decline in her ability to live independently. She's 88. We have no answers yet, and are hoping something drastic doesn't happen (such as falling and breaking a hip) that would remove much choice and autonomy.

And oh, Phrillie, please edit the title of this thread to indicate what the topic is.

Thanks, bigcitygal. Thanks for your advice but I'm not sure how to move this to one of your suggested threads.

My situation is a father in his early 70s who is exhibiting signs of alcoholism, grief, rage and despair. My mother still lives with him but the situation is so intolerable that I can no longer visit.

Is your grandmother connected with someone in her home town? 500 miles sounds like a scary distance.

Hey Phrillie, welcome to babble! Well, this is kind of a combination of intro and question, isn't it! So, I guess I'll move the thread to the body and soul forum, and then if you'd like to come back and say hi and introduce yourself to everyone in this forum, feel free.
