What a fantastic poem by Jim Stanford!

Michelle

This is incredibly good!

quote:

There's a town on the river,
Where bureaucrats shiver,
And ad agencies moil for gold,
Where the dot-coms imploded,
The reporters are loaded,
And the politics don't break the mould.

Now the Ottawa lights,
Have seen some queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see,
Was that budget pre-empted,
When the Tories attempted,
The Remaking of Jim Fla'rty.

I enjoyed it too, Michelle, and did you notice at the end, it says:

quote:

Jim Stanford, poet in residence for the Canadian Auto Workers union, offers his profuse apologies to Robert Service.

Poet in residence for the CAW -- so cute!

Delurking to say I really enjoyed that.

He's wrong about the seniors, o' course. T'warn't nuthin' there for us widows an' orphans.

BitWhys

its this sort of shit that costs him invites to beer and pizza night at the Civitas Society.

skdadl: Yeah, I didn't understand his reference to seniors either. But I still thought it was fantastic.

Let's hope for the (figurative) cremation of Jim Fla'rty in the next election! (I know, I'm not holding my breath or anything.)

To be honest, I found the work to be a trifle derivative.

Michelle

You don't say.

It's odd that Jim Stanford
Never gets too bored
Singing the same old refrain

He just can't admit
That he was full of it
When he cried "vote Liberal" (in vain)

Yes, Harper's a baddie
and Flaherty's sadly
The same right-wing prick as before

But they're proving no worse
At filling the coroporate purse
Than the Liberals we kicked out the door

The tax cuts for the wealthy
Flowed faster and less stealthy
When Chretien was up ap the top

But Jim Stanford can't see that
He got in bed with the fat cats
When he canvassed for Belinda Stronach

Now he's stuck with Stephane
Who's not a union man
And has no problems with scabs

Poor Buzz and Jim
No one listen to them
I can't think of a rhyme for scabs.
