I didn't know this before now, but apparently Lynne Cheney has a Ph.D. in English.

Well, I don't know. Look at the titles of the books she's written for children. And look at the think tank she worked for. I think they suit each other quite well.

Dr. is officially for any doctorate, but in practice it's for medical doctors. I have used it for other doctorates at times and been told not to use it.
