Kingston Visit

I will be in the Kingston, Ontario around the 25th to the 30th of June. I was wondering if anyone wants to meet me face to face and go for a coffee?

Michelle

Oh darn - I'm going to be visiting that weekend, but I'll be leaving just as you're coming to town. Sorry - I would've done it otherwise!

No problem. Maybe next time. It would have been nice to meet you.

I have been to some intersting places the last few nights. The Sleepless Goat Pub is a great place. The had a great singer there tonight.

Webgear, I was thinking about you on my train ride home on Sunday night, realizing you were arriving as I was leaving. I hope you're having a good trip.

Yes, the Sleepless Goat Cafe is really neat, and it's a worker's co-op! I'm not sure how that translates into wages and working conditions, but I assume it's better than the lower servers' minimum wage that most servers earn in Kingston before tips.

Another place that is neat, if you're interested in the pub scene, is the Kingston Brewing Company, known locally as "The Brew Pub". It's on Clarence Street. They are a microbrewery, and the atmosphere is nice in there, or at least it used to be - I haven't been there in years now, but I'm sure it hasn't changed terribly much.

I saw on the weekend that they've torn up the street and market area behind city hall. Looks like interesting stuff they're doing there, and apparently they're making a permanent market behind city hall instead of the former parking-lot-cum-occastional-market. I think that's a positive thing - surprising for Kingston, really, where City Council seems to constantly be asleep at the wheel when it comes to urban planning.

Don't even get me started on that. The outer areas of the city are abhorrent, with the nasty sprawl and big-box hell that is taking over. Transit sucks there, and developers seem to be able to do anything they please. It's not good at all.

I know “The Brew Pub" very well. I enjoy the “Dragon’s Breath Pale Ale” very much however I always feel like that a dragon ate me and then spit me the next morning.

The City Hall looks very nice, still a bit of work to do, however it is a big improvement from the large boring parking lot.

I also visited Brockville today, I am real interested in the old stone homes and business that are the heart of these old towns and villages. I hope to own a building like that some day and maybe open my own drinking establishment.

I will be in the Kingston, Ontario around the 12th of September to 11th of November. I was wondering if anyone wants to meet me face to face and go for a coffee?

Michelle

I'm not sure when I'll be visiting Kingston next, Webgear, but I'm sure it'll be before November 11th. I'll try to remember to search for this thread when I go.
