Toronto becomes Central Harlem!

Just thought it would be fun to post a few pictures I took on Yonge Street between Gerrard and Gould a couple of days ago. They're filming The Incredible Hulk here, so they've done over some stores and put some props around to make it look like New York City - including making a fake Apollo Theatre!

Edited to say: actually, I think I'll post them on another host instead of Facebook. Back soon once I get them posted.

Okay. Hopefully this will do it.
Grr! Screw it. I'm tired and going to bed. Photobucket sucks!

They filmed "Robocop" in my neighbourhood. I saw the actor in his Robocop costume loitering in a parking lot and having a cigarette.(sp. cigaret?) I think it's a nuisance when film crews roll in, take over the street, and crowd out the people who really live there. Oh, well..

Nobody actually lives on that stretch of Yonge, though, and it was very neat to see it look different. Yes...gospel music at the Apollo Theatre...next to Zanzibar. Hee!

With the dollar so high, will studios pull out of Canada??

Good question. It's clear that the high dollar will seriously hurt the tourism business but I don't know about the film industry. Are Canadian wage scales sufficiently below US ones that they're still competitive without the exchange rate kicker? Somehow I doubt it but I don't know enough about that industry to be able to comment.

Are Canadian wages, in fact, lower than American wages?

The average Canadian wage is 20% under the average American wage. The gap may be alot smaller when you start talking about median wages. I think both gaps are shrinking with the plummeting US dollar.
