Good lord. No, I'm not. I told him to stay out of this forum until he figures out what the feminism forum is all about. Some people start off on the wrong foot and turn out all right.

If he keeps acting like a jerk, then clearly he's a troll and I'll ban him. He's posted some interesting stuff in other threads.

Changed my mind again.

Sure of what Michlle?

Run down on his posts:

He shits in the feminist forum x 2 today, slams the NDP and the left just a couple of days ago, slams Emmersion, which may have been the one you thought was not so bad, but really neo-cons hate him anyway, in another he advocates working with the USA to protect ourselves, while trying to be 'left' nuanced about what is really warmongering for "good reasons" that starts off with the hook of; the government should be looking for legal precedences, and moves by the end of the post into advocating a closer relationship with the USA and getting them to help is protect our north, in yet another he threatens the reader/perceiver with Iraqis in Aghanistan if the USA pulls out of Iraq, another oblique comment that really is just war mongering, while handing out chastisement about the poor USA's lack of suppport in Iraq has lead to this disaster, as opposed to out rightly saying they were wrong to go into Iraq in the first place, or indeed anything negative at all really about really why the illegal Iraq war is failing, and then an absolutely 'whatever' nuanced commentary about the "Democrats" in the Hilary and Barack thread, which does not mean much to those who are not supportive of either the Democrats and Republicans here, but given the content and contexual values says much.

Just what of any of that is progessive and leftist thinking?

Mr. Charrington

It's from FOX News, but the story is true nonetheless.

quote:

Duke Lacrosse Players File Federal Lawsuit Against Nifong, Durham, Police

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Three former Duke lacrosse players falsely accused of rape filed a federal lawsuit Friday against disgraced prosecutor Mike Nifong, the city of Durham and the police detectives who handled the investigation.

The lawsuit calls the criminal case against Reade Seligmann, Collin Finnerty and Dave Evans "one of the most chilling episodes of premeditated police, prosecutorial and scientific misconduct in modern American history."

Now, the interesting thing is the neat juxtaposition of this story and the recent SCOC decision regarding private lawsuits against Canadian police.

quote:

People who are wrongly arrested, prosecuted or convicted have a common-law right to sue police forces and individual officers for negligence, says the Supreme Court of Canada.

Hi Mr. Charrington. This update does not belong in this thread, or in the feminist forum. Why? Because you can't have it both ways.

The media and the popular thinking about the young men from the Duke Lacross team is that they were innocent of all accusations. The judge/legal system has officially made this the "truth". Many babblers agree with this.

Since the accusations were made over 1 1/2 years ago, and the story has moved to many other places than the accusations themselves, this update has no place in this thread.

And please don't assume that I concur with any of the "facts" from my paragraph #2 above.

My suggestion is to start a new thread, and no, it would most absolutely not belong in the feminist forum either.

Mr. Charrington

Well, this thread has a story about sports team members being charged with rape, and if the lesson from Duke wasn't learned by the Minn. authorities then we could see another Niphong moment. But that's a side issue.

The point of the update was that Canadian police can now be sued if it is proven that they acted in an unreasonable manner with respect to a criminal investigation. This is something that has been available to Americans for a long time. We are finally catching up with in this one respect.

If the Duke thing had happened in Canada last year, those students would be SOL. Now at last Canadians have some sort of legal recourse.

Mr. Charrington, there is a history here of threads in the feminism forum dealing with rape getting spun into discussions about false accusations and the need to deal with guys' issues about rape (including their problems understanding basic feminism).

This is not what the feminism forum was created for.

I encourage you to read the following:
