Hey Jaku, welcome to babble. I see in your profile that you're retired. I would love to retire! How'd you do it?

I once heard a joke: "I have enough money to retire. If I die next week."

Michelle

I want to retire too!

BCG, you could always try my retirement plan - lottery tickets!

(Actually, that's not even true. I hardly ever buy lottery tickets except as gifts. I keep dreaming about winning the lottery, but I never buy a ticket!)

Jaku

the lottery helped but so did a great pension fund through the Onatrio public service...the only really good thing about the ontario public service...i was able to take early retirement and now on top of my pension i can do consulting without having to worry about towing the company line

Yes, the lottery! An excellent career plan!

I started buying lottery tickets a few years ago. So far, bupkus. When I first started I had no idea how it worked, so I checked my numbers, and I'd have 2 matches. I'd look at the graph thinking "what did I win? what did I win? At least a free ticket or something?". No. Sweet fuck all.

I still buy them every few weeks. What can I say, I'm an eternal optimist.

Anyways, enjoy babbling, Jaku! Just pick a topic and jump right in.

The Wizard of S...

Ever since I read "Backgammon For Profit" by Joe Dwek, I've dreamed of hitting the road on the professional backgammon circuit.

52 years old? A mere callow youth! Actually I retired some time ago, I just don't plan on informing my employer. Some of my clients are beginning to suspect though.

A friend of mine who used to post here, "Jimmy Brogan" once said that when he retires, and word goes around, that his success will be measured by how many people say "...who was he...?"

Of course, I think playing the lottery is a waste of time and money. But, I'm in a group at work, not because of the hope of winning, but because of the fear of them winning without me.

leftcoast

Not to worry--the poison will soon set in (after all, if you are retired so young you can't possibly be a politically correct lefty).

mary123

It might not be politically correct but that's EXACTLY the type of lefty I wanna be ... retired young lefty. Money is a great thing if used properly.

Welcome Jaku!!!
