PLEASE
Can we stop being so pessimistic and give hope for the future of Canada.
This place was about debate long ago,now it's total depression.
Babble has some of the best intellects on the net,but lately I feel depressed after coming here to read some of the posts.
This is the best country in the world, can we please show some appreciation for Canada and stop being so negative.
I don't post very much, and my opinion is probably out of line. But I do read you guys and gals posts very often and really gain alot of info which I enjoy.
I understand there is a lot of problems out there but there is hope.
No there isn't.

I don't read our current interactions as pessimistic and indeed, I wonder how one can read them as such. I like the kind of determination that eschews simplistic attentist "hope" and takes on the current challenges with a healthy dose of sarcasm for the lies and self-delusion that take up so much space around us. Is it to be less appreciative of Canada to rail at a government that discredits us worldwide by denying its very own findings about pollution, poverty, torture and injustice without and within its borders? True pessimists would remain silent, with no belief or desire for better.
Good night.

We always hope that things will get better, but in the meantime, let pessimism reign. The term 'best country in the world' is a tad nationalistic, reminisent of a not to far away land. Not a commonly agreed upon phrase around these parts.
Canada is -- by a healthy margin -- the best country in the world, based on the Proaxiom Index of National Prosperity.
This particular index has two equally weighted components. One is called the 'Quality of Domestic Beer' component and the other is the 'International Hockey Competitiveness' component.
The Czech Republic is ranked second.

I'm getting sick and tired of this particular neocon troll trying to blow smoke up our collective ass. His "Don't worry, be happy" act is the most tiresome of all the pseudo-polite routines I've seen from his brethren.

"This is the best country in the world"??? With horrible living conditions for a huge percentage of our aboriginal peoples, and a high rate of children living in poverty, and with what will become the single largest contributor to greenhouse gases on earth - the Alberta oilsands projects, I'd argue Canada is a long, long way from being able to boast it is "...the best country in the world".
This is not national news, this is a reaction to the site. Which goes in rabble reactions, so I'm moving it there.
Also, could you PLEASE change the thread title to something that reflects the subject of the thread? Thanks.
