I know some women who have had this done to them. People here make light and laugh about a very serious topic. clearly this is not a site I will direct my friends to. goodbye.

I am sorry that you perceived it that way chipo, but in fact people were not making light, nor laughing about the topic. In fact, the topic was not being discussed at all.

Sayonara. Thanks for dropping in and critiquing our irreverence. I will always remember with fondness your first post:

... the people who do give me the most problems are black women who are jelous of my looks and think I am after there men.

I guess that makes us #2?

I can imagine how she feels. I find on the Aboriginal board that perfectly good conversations turn into spats between posters of which I am also guilty of taking part in.

I can't even imagine what a woman would feel having this done. I can't imagine one of my friends having to go thru that horrible experience.

We do owe her an apology or at least some of us do.

No, she owes an apology for her first post.

And her second one. In response to an article where two women of colour were treated like potential thieves in an Ottawa clothing store, while two white women were treated like customers should be treated, her sole comment was:

quote:

Maybe the white women were regular customers.

And now she has graced us with her third and final contribution.

What exactly are we apologizing for?

This thread, indeed this board, takes issues of racism, misogyny, homophobia, etc. extremely seriously. We all tread carefully, because we know the pain felt by victims. We have dedicated forums where discussion is restricted with the aim of sensitivity and empowerment in mind. People speak their minds here, and yeah, there are spats and jokes and good taste and bad taste.

We also accept criticism. But I personally accept it better from someone who participates and does so in the spirit of what this board is about.

That's not the case here. If anyone else feels like apologizing, they can go right ahead.

Slumberjack

Having the odd sidetrack disagreement, is not the same as making fun of, or insensitivity regarding a particular issue, nor should it be taken as a lack of respect between the participants of the disagreement, at least I would hope not.
