It's interesting, but I can't help but feel that since the biosphere and the human race is in crisis, space exploration should have a practical purpose. This Virgin Galactic company is all about joy rides for bored rich people.
Space exploration must focus on gathering information on potential extraterrestrial homes for human settlers, their plants and animals. Information can be gathered about the condition of the Earth by observing it from space, and this may be crucial to the survival of future generations and to repairing damage to the biosphere.

You're right! We should also ban pets. You know dogs and cats.

North American's will be spending $43 BILLION dollars on their pets this year. Now that is a waste.

Let's put this into perspective. That is one space joy ride per day for 589 years!!!!

If we're going to make it into the next century we're going to have to change our perspective to global social responsibility. Defining everything in terms of numbers of dollars is totally unrealistic. A space agency can't launch rockets with cat food as fuel, so the $43 million you refer to is irrelevant and absurd.

I'm sure all those hamsters / rats / gerbils running on wheels can be hooked up to some sort of energy conversion combine.....

Hey, cat and dog farts add up just like cow farts!

Seriously though, creating all that pet food is not carbon free.
