In the Ms Communicate section, the following is printed:
"My issue is this: I don't support Chapters-Indigo ... simply because [of] their known ties to Israel. "
and the response:
"Your lefty principles are very important to keep, but at this point in your life your employment options are limited. Take the job. I agree with all your reasons to boycott those chains, but you still have to pay the rent. "
The clear assuption is that if the rent could be paid another way, then it would be better, as a leftist, to boycott a Jewish-owned business.
I bet the Canadian Jewish people will have something to say about that. Or maybe not.

The boycott isn't because the store is "Jewish owned" but because its owners founded and largely fund a "charity" named HESEG which gives scholarships to Israeli soldiers and has also funded other aid to the Israeli military. I've seen a lot of complaints from Israel supporters about this boycott, not one of them actually mention HESEG or that that is what the boycott is about (the few who allude to it only go as far as saying that scholarships are involved without saying that the scholarships are aimed at soldiers and in particular "lone soldiers" who are essentially foreign mercenaries who join the Israeli army.)
pk34th45 you have what purports to be a direct quote in the subject line of this discussion. I put to you that that is in fact not a quote by anyone associated with rabble and you've just fabricated it out of whole cloth. Am I correct?

I have tended to avoid Chapters-Indigo because of their negative impact on independent book retailers. However, now that I know that they support a charity which aids the soldiers of a fellow democracy and ally in the war on terror I will not hesitate to shop there anymore.

I suggest you check the inventory of your kitchen for lead lined drinking impliments, lead dishes, lead cooking impliment lead bowls and if none can be found there, have a plumber visit to make sure that none of the water mains into your house are weeping lead particles into your drinking water. If any of these things prove lead positive, check with a medical health professional immediatly.

It's morally and intellectually dishonest to say that any criticism or protest against the practices of Israel is anti-semitic (though sometimes it is). It is likewise morally and intellectually dishonest to say that any criticism of certain practices in India, say, or China, is racist (though sometimes it is).
If babble allows the second kind of statement, I don't see how it can disallow the first.

I think everyone should settle down. It's not the first time a racist provocateur thug has posted here, and it won't be the last.
