What to do on a rainy day ...

My better half has the day off tomorrow (which never happens on a weekend in the summer as he cooks at a golf course) and we were supposed to go to Wonderland. But the weather channel is calling for thunderstorms and we don’t have enough disposable income to “risk” it. Any ideas for fun, indoor activities to pass away a rainy Saturday (... besides the obvious! [img]biggrin.gif" border="0[/img] ...)

I think the obvious is ... obvious - especially given that sweetie doesn't usually have weekends off!
Expanding on the romantic idea - but outdoors, and decent...
Where are you in Ottawa? Thunderstorms are often intermittent - why don't you go for a nice walk somewhere you can take shelter in the event of a storm - along the canal, down in the market area - lots of possibilities.
Then pick up some nice, tasty food - nothing too heavy mind you - something nice to drink - and pretend you are on holiday at home. Don't answer the phone or turn on the computer. (As if!)

Haha, lagatta, you remind me that I have to change my tagline on babble. I moved from Ottawa a year and a half ago, and I've yet to change it! [img]biggrin.gif" border="0[/img] One of those things I just haven't gotten around to yet!
I'm in Hamilton, so we'll probably trek into Toronto and find something fun to do. Though, I like the idea of just getting some take-out and relaxing and hanging out!

jrose, there are all sorts of Pride events happening this weekend in Toronto, including the Pride parade on Sunday, and the Dyke March on Saturday.

jrose, there is also a nice market in Hamilton - with such lovely local fruit. Perhaps Hamilton has Pride events as well?
I never think of Pride as we celebrate it later here - early in August (DiversCitй). The reason is the conflict with the flag wars from the 24th to the !st... But it seems to me that this year the Pride events fall on the actual anniversary of the Stonewall revolt!

That's right! I completely forgot it was pride this weekend. We had pride in hamilton two weekends ago, which was excellent. Thanks for the advice!

Well, perhaps there is still something local - I think it is really important for Pride (or whatever it is called where you live) to become an event in towns large and small.
Not at all opposed to a lovey-dovey day, whatever your gender or sexual orientation! [img]smile.gif" border="0[/img]

I envy you having[url=http://www.rbg.ca/pages/events.html#RC] the Royal Botanical Gardens [/url]so handy. A bit of rain is far better than blistering heat, as we verified all too well with our three weeks in China, where the average weather in May was mild and rainy, but we never got a drop of rain on us in three weeks -- 34 to 37 degree heat instead.
Doesn't it have some buildings you can duck into in a downpour?

Me'n the kids and my daughter's BF are going in to catch the dyke march and peripheral events. We used to do the parade on Sunday, but we all found the size of the crowds to be prohibitive.

Oh, do go to the Royal Botanical Gardens! Lovely. I haven't been there in many years. Our Botanical Gardens are nice too (especially the First Nations' Garden) but the Royal has a more picturesque setting - and I see there are teahouses! A spot of tea...

Thanks, everyone! Oddly enough, it didn't end up raining! But we had already decided against Wonderland and we decided to take a trip back to the 80's and went to the arcade and played some video games, went for a beautiful dinner on a patio along the lake in Burlington and then headed to a lounge in Hamilton for some live music. It was a fantastic day!
I am going to try and get to the Royal Botanical Gardens very soon. My parent's live only seconds from it, yet I haven't been in years. A musician who I used to follow from Ottawa is playing one of their jazz in the gardens series, which I plan to check out.
