Respect in Action: Youth Preventing Violence (ReAct) is searching for diverse youth 18 to 29 years old to become PEER FACILITATORS

ReAct (Respect in Action) is a youth program of the Metropolitan Action Committee on Violence Against Women and Children (METRAC). It’s made up of young women and men Peer Facilitators who deliver relevant, interactive, and empowering violence prevention workshops, trainings, and speaking engagements on issues related to violence against women and youth. ReAct raises awareness, fosters discussion, validates the knowledge and expertise of youth, introduces community resources, and motivates youth to work towards a violence-free society.

Facilitator Responsibilities:

· Lead workshops and speaking engagements in middle and high schools, detention centres, community centers, shelters, and other places youth go

· Work with other facilitators to design workshops about violence against youth, women, and children

· Attend ReAct meetings and trainings to build your skills and understanding about the issues

Facilitator Qualifications:

· Ability to talk about violence against women, youth, and children and discrimination/oppression issues (e.g. racism, classism, sexism, homophobia, heterosexism, ageism, ableism) in an integrated manner; dedication to working within the framework and policies of the program

· Experience with making a positive difference in your community, peer education, popular education, working with youth, and/or preventing violence

· Ability to work and communicate with youth workers/educators within institutions (e.g. schools, youth detention centres); dedication to maintaining a positive image of the program in communities

· Written and spoken fluency in English; other languages a strong asset

· Comfortable doing public speaking, especially with other young women and young men

· Good listening, communication, organizing, learning, and team work skills

· Ability to attend meetings, workshops, trainings, and speaking engagements during daytime and evening hours; flexible schedule required

· Success in returning all calls and emails within 24 hours of receiving them

· Creativity and enthusiasm; reliability; willingness to learn; openness

We invite everyone to apply, but we encourage youth that are underrepresented to apply (e.g. newcomer youth, youth with lower incomes).
