City of Champions
When comedian Jeremy Hotz was here last spring he made fun of Edmonton's "City of Champions" sign, saying it was out of date by about 20 years.
I was reminded of that bit tonight after coming home from the drubbing that the hockey Huskies inflicted on the Golden Bears, then flicking on the TV, whereupon I saw the Canucks beating the Oilers and the Riders (via TSN2) handing the Eskimos their worst loss since the Riders whupped them in 1964.
Shouldn't Edmonton's sign be updated to say, "Just another town"?
As an Albertan I feel a knee jerk reaction to defend one of our cities from an attack from Canadians, yet as a Calgarian I am tempted to "kick" Edmonton when it is "down". So let me add another dynamic tension to that one; I hate commercial radio, yet I will add a link for a commercial radio station which captures the spirit of the situation better then I can ...

Na, City of Champions seems fine, they actually have started on the road to recovery, they now have a NDP MP.
Touchй. Lefty Saskavites cannot feel very smug about the glaring fact that Alberta has more NDP MPs that we have.

They were quite a team, the Gretzky era Oilers. They had five prolific goal scorers who could break open a game on spur of the moment. Did I ever mention how much I appreciate Albertans?

Meanwhile, Toronto won the battle of Ontario last night.

For what, hiring those Finns and Ontarians to play hockey in Edmonton?
I only ever saw Gretzky live playing for the Greyhounds once. He was invisible on the ice, so I went to get beverages sometime in period two. I'm standing in line and heard the announcer mention that he'd just scored. Damn, I said aloud. It was one of those shifty side-to-side office plays from behind the net to a shooter in front. Oh well.
