Palin Pranked by Quebec Comedians

It's too bad the radio hosts behaved like self-conscious twits, lobbing stupid, embarrassing jokes at her, instead of getting her to discuss - as if she was really talking to Sarkozy - the secret Repug agenda on sensitive issues such as fossil and nuclear energy choices, the Wall Street Bailout, immigration, the imperialist wars, compensating Afro-Americans for slavery...
Another example of misogyny derailing an urgent, essential critique.

I don't like these kind of sophomore pranks being done to celebrities.

I know many people think it makes Palin look dumb, but it also makes the audience look like it's primarily Joe Plumbers and Six-packs.

"Haha. They made funny with a famous person."

The subject matter of their conversation and weak imitation of French politicos makes these suburban-basement clowns look pretty dumb as well.

Pride for Red D...

My internet isn't fast enough to listen to it, but I read an article about it, and it looks pretty funny. Comedy is an important vehicle for criticism- and she has been accused an proved to be ignorant before.

The "Can we go hunting in a helicopter together" line was pretty cute.

Sarah Palin's campaign issued an "mildly amused" response to having joined Jacques Chirac and Nicolas Sarkozy in having been the victim of a prank by a pair of French-Canadian comedians who impersonated Sarkozy on a call with the Alaska governor.

The prankster talked hunting ("I just love killing those animals."), and Palin said she was a "careful" shot in contrast to Dick Cheney. He also made a reference she appeared to miss to a porn movie in the conversation, which can be heard here and here. He said he could see Belgium from his house, described "my special American adviser Johny Halliday," a French singer, and referred to Canadian singer Stef Carse as Canada's prime minister, as Palin continued the conversation until he explained it was a prank.

"Gov. Palin received a phone call on Saturday from a French Canadian talk show host claiming to be French President Nicholas Sarkozy," emailed spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt. "Gov. Palin was mildly amused to learn that she had joined the ranks of heads of state, including President Sarkozy, and other celebrities in being targeted by these pranksters. C'est la vie."

Hardly sporting.

Michelle

Yeah, she's a pretty easy mark.

I thought he said, "From my ass I can see Belgium." So did my son, who I didn't realize was listening! I listened to the rest on earphones. (Good thing, too - I don't really want to explain "Nailin Paylin" to him!)

It's conficting, really. I've seen Palin made fun of quite a bit. I mean, I turned off the Curic interview. I can take being embarassed. I mean, look at me here.

But I can't take being embarassed for someone else.

On the other hand, she's involved in some pretty serious freakin' business. And people should be aware of her abilities, such as they are.

On top of that, there's been stuff she's had to handle that's been sexist, and that's wrong even if it isn't our political ox being gored. For once.

Any way you slice it, painfull to watch. But much of it necessary, I suppose.

Stockholm

There's nothing sexist with showing that a candidate for VP of the United States is as dumb as a post and ridiculously unqualified.

Back in 1968, the Democrats ran ads making fun of Spiro Agnew that had nothing but canned laughter for a whole minute while the TV screen said "Spiro Agnew for Vice-President?" then at the end the voice over said "This would be funny if it wasn't so serious".

These jokesters who make these prank calls have gone after men just as much as women. A number of years ago a comedian in Montreal pretended to be Jean Chretien, got put through to Pope John Paul II and asked him if he had ever thought of attaching a little plastic propeller to his skull cap!!

Tommy_Paine

I can't say I dissagree with you Stockholm, whole heartedly. I think people in the Republican Party that called her a "Diva" certainly crossed the sexist line, if no one else did.

It's just not sitting right with me.

Piling on. Beating a dead horse. Carrying Coals to Newcastle.

I couldn't get the sound on the earlier links. Here's the youtube.

Er Martin, they're comedians.

Nobody expects Marg Delahunty to be serious either.

Excellent example of both an intelligent comedian and a social critic that cuts to the quick when she confronts a politico.

Two more coups for the Masked Avengers:

Quote:

During the call, Ban appears to become suspicious when fake Harper complains he was too busy combing his hair with Krazy Glue to attend this week's ministerial meeting of the U.N. General Assembly — a clear dig at the Canadian prime minister's immaculate hairdo.

"Excuse me, am I speaking with Prime Minister Harper right now?" Ban is quoted as saying.

Fake Harper begins the call in French by explaining why he sent his "lap dog," Foreign Minister John Baird to New York in his place.

And then, Thursday afternoon, "François Legault" phoned Stephen Harper on a U.N. line while he was in New York receiving his phony award. During the 5-10 minute call, Harper congratulated "Legault" for his opposition to tax hikes, but also advised him not to bring down the PQ government too quickly. Harper never tumbled to the prank until the next day.

Wow - that needs to be widely publicized - Harper interfering in the affairs of Quebec.
