Election results thread - exit polling and real results
Just thought I'd start a thread for election results - I don't think there's one yet.
Anyhow, to start off,
OOps - my mistake - they called the Senate race there, not the Presidential. Still a good sign, just less so.

Vermont. Not Virginia.
CNN is beaming reporters into the studio!
Save me Wolf Blitzer, your my only hope!

Indiana is looking really close. That in itself is a big deal. It's been Red since the late 60's I think.
Just saw on NBC that in Chicago at Grant Park where Obama's win or lose speech is being held security is preparing for upwards of 500,000 people. 78,000 ticket holders inside the park and the rest outside.
That's nutz.
Damn back button!

How can they do that? McCain appears to be leading there (unless you mean the senate race where Warner is significantly ahead of the Republican). He also has a lead in Florida although of course it is very early. Might start drinking heavily right now.

Anyway...Kentucky for McCain, Vermont for Obama. Stupid holograms for everyone!

Florida is definitely too early. Those numbers come from like one or two precincts in a heavily republican areas.

CBS is giving West Virginia to McCain - no surprise there.
Heh now Obama is ahead by 10% in Florida.
Florida the crazy swing state.
Have they counted any votes in West Virginia yet? Seems silly to call it at this point. McCain will most likely win it but Obama will be within 5 i think.
I think it's pretty safe to call West Virginia for McCain. The polling there hasn't been especially close and if the results from exit polling and early returns are matching that, why not?
McCain is going to win.
ABC gives Obama Pennsylvania. This is huge. McCain is toast.
MSNBC is calling Pennsylvania for Obama.
Now here come the EVs...all the usual (suspects?) states from New England.
It looks like a landslide victory for Obama, although it's still very early. Go Obama!!!

Awww...and McCain tried SO hard to get it!
The numbers I'm seeing he is also holding onto the 10% lead in Florida. Still early though but a good sign.
In Indiana Obama's margins are up relative to Kerry in the rural red counties and he's already flipped a couple of Bush counties it looks like and the Dem stongholds haven't reported yet.
Obama is leading in West Virginia!!! Holy sh*t!

He most definitely did. Last week was just foul in Pennsylvania. Every smear, scary, socialist, commie blah blah attack, stump, ad, flyer, you name it, it was dumped into Pennsylvania.
Elizabeth Dole is losing in North Carolina. Couldn't happen to anyone better.
Ooo Liddy Dole has lost her senate seat in NC. That's a big one.
Dole is scum - her opponent was the target of vicious lies by E. Dole, and considered a lawsuit, but it wouldn't have been heard until well after the election. I'm very happy to see Dole lose!

Me too. Those ads saying Hagen is 'Godless' were brutal.
New Hampshire has been called for Obama! (on CNN)
Woah...Florida is looking good for Obama.
oops - my mistake - the Democrats won the Governor's race in New Hampshire. Not the federal election - yet!
About time, CNN! They called PA for Obama.
No I think it's the Senate race, Shaheen over Sununu.
WOW...72% of first-time voters are voting Obama. That's insane.
That was from CBC, who seem very confused tonight. Much better coverage from CNN, I think.
ABC appears to be the most aggressive in terms of what they're prepared to call. Their electoral map page is here.

Okay Boom Boom you can say it again now. NBC is calling it now.
MSNBC has called Georgia for McCain, seems pretty early yet for that.
19 million votes so far and they are separated by only 18,000 votes. Only in the US.
Florida is getting pretty narrow again (surprisingly Texas is only a 3% margin at the moment.)
Peter Mansbridge just said Obama will be the likley victor tonight - no major American network has said that yet.
The polls in about 15 states close momentarily. Should see some movement shortly.
I was noticing in CNN's in-depth results for Florida, at the bottom of the page there seems to be a "ballot measure" in that state, a referendum on a state ban on gay marriage. Talk about GOTV of reactionary wackos in a key state. That's very sneaky. I wonder who got to decide to put that on there?
ETA: Elsewhere on the CNN site it says that there are 133 ballot measures in 33 states this election, down from 2004 and 2000. The Wiki "Initiatives" article won't load but a pdf from the USC School of Law on iandrinstitute.org says that not quite half of these direct democracy measures come about as a result of citizen petitions, while the majority are placed on the ballot by legislatures. Anyway, this is not the only ballot issue in Florida this year, and Florida is not by any means the first state to have produced such a ballot. Other states are balloting on abortion access, as a prelude to producing a case to test the court on overturning Roe v Wade. So, I guess, no real evidence of conspiracy there.
Jeez, I'm glad we don't have those things though.

Told you so. ABC has the EV count at 174 for Obama to 61 for McCain.
CNN: New Mexico declared for Obama (this is where I spent my holidays for a while).
CNN's electoral college: Obama 174, McCain 49.
It's worth noting that all the states called for Obama thus far were Kerry states in 2004. He's going to win, but he's not there yet.
Iowa + New Mexico + Colorado does it.
Or Virginia + any one of the above.
Or Ohio alone.
Or Florida alone.
etc.
(edited to add the link to your one-stop shop on all the network calls)

Ouch. McCain's home state AZ is being reported as to close to call.
That one would be an upset.

Fox called Ohio for Obama a couple minutes ago. Then retracted that call a couple seconds later.
And don't forget North Carolina. If Obama can keep his lead their then that is huge.

That's too bad. I thought the results would be closer than they are in Georgia, but I suppose that was wishful thinking.
Both CBS and Fox (for a second time) call Ohio for Obama!!

I spent time in Phoenix and Tucson with my Arizona gf. Darn hot eight months of the year! (I had a gf in New Mexico previously, and we often drove between Albuquerque and Ruidoso).
Wolf Blitzer hyped a "major projection" as he threw to commercial just now. I think they're going to call either FL or OH for Obama, and with it, the election.
Pollster.com now shows 4 of the networks having called Ohio for Obama. CNN hasn't done so as yet.
CNN has now.
