Only in Vermont....the seat was not up for re-election last night... but when looking at the senate seats, he counts as one of the "independents" who will mostly vote with the Democrats....Ironically The Dems didn't even bother running anyone against him last time.
Through Dems Abroad I know of a few prominent American/Canadians that are Social Democats/Dems including a few in government/highly political roles. (and no, surprisingly Iggy is NOT one of them) [img]rolleyes.gif" border="0[/img]
I wonder how many "closet" social democrats are in the US congress and senate? I would say there are probably more than you'd expect.

With many Dems running from the (sucessfully) demonized word "liberal", you really think there are lots of openly proud social democrat Dems aka "socialists" (in yank-speak)???

While I tend to agree Michelle I always wonder how they square those views with overt imperialism. That is at the core of the American world view. Whether it was 1755 or 1812 or 1899 just to name a few historic dates the Americans have always thought they had the answers for others and those answers usually involved military occupation of other peoples land for the benefit of American business.

Interesting! However, & I might stand corrected, but if there was a roll call I doubt many in the progressive caucus would stand up to say they were social democrats..."progressives" sure. Heck, as it was just pointed out (sort of), the Canadian Liberals are the first to call themselves "progressive", so do neo-liberal eco-capitalist Greens, yet both diss the "socialist policies" of the NDP.

Bernie is trying to trailblaze there.
It's a tough road. There was another Progressive party candidate in Vermont this election. The Democrats and the Republicans nominated the same candidate (write in ballot on the Republican side when no Republican ran). I was thinking that was a method to spike the Progressive, but the Progressive ran 4th, behind 2 independents. So either that was panic, or the Republicans just giving up.

While I agree with the sentiment quoted in Boom Boom's image above, I do question the use of the word "absurd". "Criminal" would have been my choice (although it would have competed with "perverse", "unconscionable", "disgusting" and "beyond repugnant". I may have missed some though, please feel free to join in with your suggestions.
