Jack Layton: Canada's Most Brilliant Statesman of our Time

In all this hullabaloo over the proable change in our federal government, one thing that is purposely being omitted in the mainstream press, is the story about what a fabulous job Jack Layton has done in bringing this coalition about, with a little help from Harper of course. When I read the transcript of the illegally published transcript I realized how fortunate NDP supporters, but also all Canadians are, to have an NDP leader of such high calibre in Parliament.

Okay, NorthReport, I appreciate good satire as much as the next guy...

No kidding.

Jack Layton is squandering the amazing political capital he has meticulously built up since his energizer bunny days by showing his hidden agenda.

Make no mistake - his scheming opportunism is not playing well outside the NDP doctrinal core.

A political

His enormous ego is showing once again! It is hard for me to dislike anyone more than I dislike Harper, but Jack is edging him out of first place.

This thread is pure spam. There is nothing of substance that could possible satisfy the thread title: are we really to simply panegyrize to Layton for a few dozen posts? There are already half a dozen or more threads about the potential coalition open.

Ratbert

This thread is specifically about Mr. Layton's part in this historic political manoevre and I, for one, consider his motivations germaine to any discussion of this event.

The speed with which the three opposition parties dropped any pretense of principle to seize the moment when their own entitlements were threatened speaks to the premise that this 'crisis' is much more about the personal asperations of 300 odd individuals than it is about the threat Canadians face from an uncertain economy.

I think that Mr. Harper has shown his 'hidden agenda' and that Canadians are not impressed with his vengeful partisanship. A pizza parliament without the present leaders' huge egos and a coalition government dedicated to Canada's advancement and success may be Canada's best path forward but nothing in this political crisis suggests Canada and Canadians' concerns are of any importance to the jockeying opportunists who see personal gain. Jack Layton is in the fore in this action.

More or less.

I for one think Jack Layton has done the best job he could give the situation.

If he can get a coalition government together with 6-8 cabinet posts for the NDP members, he'll have achieved a giant leap forward for the party.

Yes, certainly for the party but how about for the country? How about and election with the Liberals and NDP running on a coalition platform? NDP involvement may chase the rats out of the Liberal party's dank corners allowing the brighter lights to shine. I can forsee a majority goverment as the outcome of such a move.

Could we please try and keep thread proliferation to a minimum on this coalition stuff?  The comment in the opening post could just as easily have been posted in a number of already going threads.
