Skimmed the site.  What a bunch of whiners.

Honestly. What happened to the so-called rugged individualism Alberta's supposed to be famous for? Suck it up, guys.

That is because they drove everyone but the Conservatives out.  Conservatism has always been for people who whine because someone else might get ahead of them on merit rather than connections.  Conservatives are the Larry Dallas of Canadain politics.

Anyone want to lay odds on the liklihood that "mcgregok" IS, in fact, Jefferson Glapski himself?

He does seem to have a great interest in spreading the Gospel of Glapski to the heathens.

A bunch of dreamers with a loose grip on reality. Oil at $25 or less a barrel may give them a dose of reality, but probably not, they will blame it on the Coalition.

Fidel

I think we should annex Alberta from Exxon-Imperial, Ed Wehrmacht, Encana etc

------ ------------------------------------------

You mean after the glacier-fed rivers in the Rockies (Alberta's only source) begin going dry by June, FM?  And the Athabaska River, main tributary of the Mackenzie, takes on  enough toxic sediment to allow  Preston Manning to finally walk on it?

Yeah, that oughta change some minds - by about 2015.

But in the meantime, we have to put up more of those pediculated fish on our bumpers. Wanted to get one last summer, but my sister-in-law from Grand Rapids would have seen it as something aimed at her.  Been wondering how to mount one temporarily , between visits.

That idiot is still crying about Trudeau? Holy crap, the guy's dead already, let it go.

This is what happens when you let Americans into the country: they start believing they own the place.

To my everlasting shame, I got it.

Maybe Alberta should go, but only the portion within its pre-1905 borders. Canada should retain the part that was the Athabasca Territory.

mcgregok

The above posts prove my point. Alberta is not wanted in confederation.

I fucking hate these threads.

No, you and your reactionary ignorance are not wanted anywhere. Especially in Alberta.

If you have such a hard-on for America, go join the Marines and get the hell out of my province. You're poisoning my air.

Stargazer

MC G, ya you..... you don't like Canada enough as a Canadian, how about a move? If you feel we don't like Alberta, how about actually electing people OTHER THAN CONSERVATIVES!! and how about paying attention to provinces that are not Alberta. Goes both ways buddy.

Besides, Alberta cannot leave. The land and its resources does not belong to you. It belongs to the First Peoples of Canada. Give it back, then hit the road. And take Harper and the rest of the Con voters with you.

Bloody whiner.

Given that no one seems to have posted on that web's discussion forum since July, I'd say their glee was remakably restrained.  Poor dude's just trying to drum up some business.

With a 2L Dr. Pepper.  It was a combo.

Hoodeet

gee, thanks rabble folks.  I thought I was the only person in
the world dreaming of Alberta seceding and leaving us in
peace.   Thanks to some of these postings I am now having
second thoughts and of course I'd prefer to get rid of all the
right-wingers. But they have the political power (in Alberta and in
Ottawa), so how on earth can it be done?  Perhaps we should carve
out southern Alberta and threaten to sell it to China so the US takes
it over and all the yankee wannabes will be so relieved and happy they
won't kick up a fuss over our kicking them out of Confederation.
But yes, we must keep the rest of it and nurse it back to health.

However, we'll need some heavy-duty army to keep the yanks from
invading to  take over the tar sands.    Hire foreign
mercenaries to fight off Blackwater...

Just dreaming....

Stargazer

Great post Wilder!! Really well written.

Hoodeet, I don't want Alberta to secede,  I just want the nasty Americans and wanna be Americans to get a grip and do one of two things 1) Remember they are Canadian and 2) if they don't want to be Canadian move to Texas.

Since we have Free Trade, why not trade off those neo-Con American wannabes for some of the gays and lesbians in California and Boston proper.

They get to get rid of the people they openly despise, and we get rid of more Con voters.

Hey maybe we can get those guys in Afghanistan, they seem awfully hard to oppress... Of course they aren't big fans of ours right now but I think they'd like Alberta once they got there. It'd be like Little Mosque on the Prairie, just a lot more violent...

whoa wait a sec. Many liberals and NDPers are also from USA. Lots of them came to Canada after the vietnam war and got active in the canadian left.

Also don't forget C.D. Howe, an american who became "Minister of Everything" in MacKenzie King's wartime government.

Lots of conservatives would be angry at Americans coming to Canada and joining the liberals but it's fair game if people get their Canadian citizenship.

Alberta Brûlée

Take one land and cleanse it of buffalo and Indians. Reserve any residual Indians.

Divide the prairie into cattle ranches and feedlots, adding as many animals as will fit; to ensure their health and tastiness, feed them generous doses of antibiotics and growth hormones; enjoy when plump.

Carve onto the surface of the land a grid of packed gravel roads; spray these with oil, as needed, to keep the dust down. Add generous lines of asphalt highways. Run large vehicles back and forth over the roads as frequently as possible. Tip: To play up the rustic brand of Alberta, roads should be named after displaced indigenous groups or animals.

Arrange monocultures in a checkerboard pattern over the grasslands, taking care to place them close to the rivers. Sprinkle liberally with RoundUp. Tips: Crops for cattle are more lucrative than crops for humans, which are best imported from California or Mexico. Incidentally, humans must also be imported for use in Alberta, and the common Newfoundlander works quite well.

Chop lodgepole pines sustainably at the base and set aside.

Blast roads through the mountains to ensure they are exploited to their full economic and recreational potential, however, take care to discourage problem wildlife from encroaching on tourist territory.

Poke holes in the ground and carefully extract the sweet crude and sour gas. If oil is contaminated with sand, conservatively dig up the entire surface of the affected area, remove the bitumen and discard.

What is left of the land, sever into segments, grooming each one with a green lawn. Top with large houses using approximately 157 of the lodgepole pines each, taking care to orient the view towards the majestic Rocky Mountains, or the Costco parking lot. Tips: The names of suburbs should evoke images of old world distinction or idyllic scenery. For an authentic touch, houses in Alberta should be decorated lightly with western accessories such as cattle skulls (available from feedlots), or art (available from the Indians reserved above).

Turn up the heat of the earth as quickly possible until Alberta is brown and crispy. Alberta is done when the rivers are dry and a green smog hovers over the entire land.

Yield: Limitless

Note: This recipe is energy intensive and may be modified for a lighter result.

I understand the oil companies asked the federal government for another bunch of money yesterday.  Do they want it before Alberta separates? What a joke.

Ya that was a slick deal he made with Kessler for TransCanada pipelines. Canadian taxpayers only had to finance about 90% of the cost so they could play at capitalism. We've paid rich people and foreigners to take the stuff off our hands.

I want to start my own city state if Alberta leaves the country.

It will be a cross between Constantinople and the Viking settlement of York.

It will located on the western shore of Georgian Bay.

If Alberta leaves Confederation, then I'll end up paying the freakin' world price for oil!

I've been gassing up on the U.S. side every second tankful for years. They import our stuff, and yet I've been saving $10 bucks and more on a tank full on their side for a long time. Figure that out.

Hmmm....

You want Canadian taxes raised to OECD rates but you deke out of paying your fair share.

Priceless!

thorin_bane

ratbert you know we pay a lot more than the yanks do for gas and we have SURPLUS gas right. Do you know what allmost every other gas rich country pays ....thought not. We have taxes on our pump because Exxon tells us to, they don't want americans driving across our border to find out we pay less for OUR OWN OIL than they do. It would be a scandal. We are being fleeced by the oil companies becasue the gas tax is a flat 26 cents a litre regardless of 148 a barrel or 40 dollars  a barrel. Given recent news of the shut down in new projects and slowing of existing ones, I bet some albertans may soon be pining for the good old days when the rest of canada had to pay a higher flat rate than world prices for the purpose of energy exploration. Damn that NEP for trying to help out the entire country!!! Evil eastern bastards paying too much for gas! Trudeau is such a dick(he is but mostly for non NEP things)

Whateverr, thorin. Canada's overall taxation on fuels is substatially higher than overall American taxation. The price of gasoline is less than US$1.50 in many parts of the US which converts to ~ C$0.48/l.  The 'surplus' gas Canada exports contributes a major part of Canada's GDP, trade surplus and government revenues.

What does your version of tax policy, which I do not disagree with BTW, have to do with advocating higher taxes tax rates to support wealth redivision schemes on the one hand and avoiding paying the freight on existing tax policies for personal gain on the other. Your biased diatrabe does contain a kernel of sound policy but is surrounded by the usual socialist malarkey about energy pricing and taxation.

If you wish me to comment on energy policy and taxation at the national level, I'd be glad to do so but somehow, your post gives me the impression that such commentary will not be taken seriously unless it mirrors socialist doctrine.

Do socialists get to avoid taxation that pays for social policies among other less progressive policies for morally superior reasons? Does everyone get to deke out of paying their share except "the rich" or "the corporations"?

It's Me D

Taxation smaxation, nationalized oil companies provide all revenue with no extraction by corporate parasites. Yeah, thats socialist. And it works.
