Great idea Alex! I'm looking forward to the contributions by Babblers. I'll have to review my reading from the year....
Stuffed and Starved by Raj Patel (I think it was 2008, but maybe it was 2007)
"Reconcilliation" - Benazir Bhutto.

"Reconcilliation" - Benazir Bhutto.
I thought this was a list of "progressive" books???
[url=http://www.organizedrage.com/2007/12/benazir-bhutto-not-death-of-tyrant-... doesn't qualify as a progressive, by a long chalk.[/url]
Have you read it?

Unlike Benazir Bhutto, there is no questioning Tariq Ali's progressive credentials.

Oo! These are good ones...I'm definitely planning to read The Duel over the holidays...any interesting books on Canadian politics you've read? I've been meaning to read the CCPA's recent book on Harper...has anybody read this?
Buying In: The Secret Dialogue Between What We Buy and Who We Are by Rob Walker . . . not one on Canadian politics but interesting nonetheless
any interesting books on Canadian politics you've read?
I've already listed five.
Or do you define "politics" as meaning that which goes on in the House of Commons?

Reading Das Kapital through Manga
Tony Morrison's "A mercy". Not "progressive" in a
limited/conventional sense of the word, but definitely a beautiful
re-reading of early U.S. history (servitude, slavery, economic
skulduggery, etc.) . More poetic than most of her books so
far. Do not miss it.
(only 167 pages)
Jose Saramago's "Seeing".
Sequel to "On Blindness".
I preferred his earlier novel "The cave" , though.
Hugo Bonjean's Seeds....of germination...or termination.

Its a fiction with a great premise to put in the hands of a 13 year old.
Reading Das Kapital through Manga
Jacob if you see this post, are you reading in Japanese or is there an english translation? If so, is it available online? I've had no luck finding a translated and scanned copy but I'd be very interested in reading it if there is such a thing out there... thanks!
these are some of my favourite reads of 2008, although not all of them are copyrighted 2008, more of them are fairly recent publications.
