I would go even further and say that a one-state solution requires the creation of a democratic, secular society free of racism and oppression. Such a society is impossible under capitalism; it will require a socialist revolution.

Hmm ... I have no idea what the Palestinians and Israelis think of that, but I do think whatever the solutions are, they will have to come from them.
I suppose since Israel isn't really a democratic state, the smart guys may continue to say that democracies don't wage war against other democracies.
That deserves being repeated. I suspect the Israeli strategy for Gaza will now be to keep them caged and starving in their concentration camp until they fall from every illness without the strength to fight even the common cold. And eventually they will wither and die and fly away with the dust.FM, isn't this a very big risk after a one-state solution as well? Actually, I can't imagine a one-state solution leading to anything other than a vindication for the "Greater Israel" proponents in which Israel or a Jewish majority within some hypothetical future Israel/Palestine hybrid will continue to commit the atrocities it/they commit today .... only worse. And Western governments will continue ignoring those of us screaming "Apartheid".
See I disagree. The issue lies not with Israel but with Palestinians. They've bought into a bill of goods sold to them by dishonest brokers. There is not and never will be a Palestinian state. It is merely a ploy sold to Palestinians while Israel consolidates its hold on the best lands in the West Bank and ist water reserves.
If Palestinians demand equality and polical rights within Israel, then the entire dynamics change. Israel is far more fearful of a Palestinain civil rights movement demanding politcial and economic rights within Israel than Palestinians demanding a state that will never be. And they are more fearful for very good reason.
Interesting ... yes I see how that could be more of a problem for the 'Jewish state'. Much worse 'optics' bombing your own citizens than those of a separate state.

It's giving up on the idea of a Jewish state that will be the difficulty, I think.

That would be news to most Israelis who are descended from Sepahrdic Jews who immigrated to Israel from Morocco, Iraq, Yemen etc... - not to mention the vast majority of Israelis who are Israeli born - are physically almost indistinguishable from Palestinians, eat hummus and felafel and are essentially "Jewish Arabs".
If you believe that Israell is some mad conspiracy by Europeans to control oil and resources - they sure missed the ball. Israel has no oil and virtually no natural resources. If the idea was to control oil - they would have created Israel where Kuwait or Saudi Arabia are now.

Israel in its present configuration and location "is just not working out." Its behavior isn't suited to Palestine - a bad choice, in hindsight, for a Jewish homeland. Better to "offer the new Israeli government the states of Colorado, Oklahoma, and Texas," where "orthodox Christian populations" that are so enamored of the current State of Israel "should be quite amenable to moving out of the region" to make room for the newcomers. Right-wing preachers like Pastor John Hagee should certainly be capable of explaining that "God has now revealed Texas to be the promised land of Zion." After all, "If you've sold one ‘God gave them the land' package, you've sold them all."
Why the anger at those who favor a "two state solution", when the slaughter campaign in Gaza by the IDF is actually a fight, in large measure, designed to STOP the creation of a real Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza?
It's not as though Tikkun Magazine called for this war.
The real enemy is the "Israel gets a state and the Palestinians don't" crowd, not those who've called for a historic compromise.
And I say this as an uncompromising opponent of the IDF war against Gaza, full stop.
