Occupations under pressure in Canada

Check with any labour union in any provinve bar none, and see how many people they currently have on their unemployments, and then try and comprehend why our federal government has labourers listed as one of the occupations presently under pressure. Harper's foreign workers program is a scam.

Sorry, stupid question probably but what does this mean?

Sorry I didn't word that very clearly.

What I meant to say is ask any union how many of their members are currrently unemployed? I can tell you at the moment there is not one labour union local in Canada that does not presently have a substantial unemployed list of their members on their "out of work" board, and I'm sure it is the same for most of the other unions that are on this BS "pressure" list that is on our Canadian government website at the present time. I was going to say this is unbelievable, but it obviously isn't with Harper at the helm. This is union-busting at its finest - talk about a full-scaled assault on the labour movement in Canada.

I've been fighting this for a long time. Labour Market Opinions are documents that must be filed before temporary work permits are issued, The LMO's are supposed to be given to the union and they must sign off on it. Ledcor's Clac Rep is also an appointee to Immigration and citenship that has over sight. Ledcor brought 20 Sri Lankis as late as the second week in Feb to fill jobs when candian workers are being sent home with pink slips. Cementi Italia that owns cement plants all over the world brought in 20-30 czechs to do ironwork at the plant in Picton Ontario. The LMO's said they were Ironworkers but the plant union signed off because they have no ironworker job description, the plant hires contractors that hire ironworkers. The whole process is supposed to involve the public interest but yet LMO's typical have to be released under the Freedom of Information Act, which takes a long time and usually takes a few requests. The whole process is a load of manure. The freedom of Information Act is there to be able to thwart investigation by the ordinary person. LMO's are a whitewash. With the number of people out of work in construction, ask yourself this " Why are foreign workers still being brought in?" I agree about it being union busting.

Could perhaps the first post of the recently closed thread entitled "Temporary Foreign Workers still being brought in to Fort McMurray to work" be transferred here to this thread. I didn't necessarily get the impression that albertagirl was being racist, although it probably could have been worded a bit differently to ensure that this was not the case. Then we can possibly dissect this issue to help ensure there is no racism involved.

Bring in workers from foreign lands including the UK, Australia New Zealand, the USA, or wherever is not on, particularly when we have so many unemployed Canadians who can fill the jobs.
