Those Yanks sure know how to throw a party

I am watching the Tampa Superbowl half-time show.

Can you believe this game so far!

I thought for sure Phoenix was heading to the dressing room at half-time in the lead. What a difference a bad pass can make.

NorthReport

That epic run was the longest play in Superbowl history - 100 yards.

Now if it was in Canada he would have been 10 yards short of his touchdown.

Papal Bull

And Bruce Springsteen's half time show complete with knee slide into the camera? Friggin' awesome!

It certainly is an event.  It's the Hollywoodization of sports.  Nothing wrong with that, I guess.  Sport is entertainment, after all.

I'm so sad that I missed Springsteen!  But I'm thrilled to see that the Steelers are kicking Cardinal butt.  Take that, McCain!  You suck, and so does your team!

(I'd better shut up now before I jinx it...)

I thought you always favored the underdog, Michelle!!? Tongue out

The Cardinals were 9-7 this year...I don't think a team with that kind of record has ever even made it to the Super Bowl, let alone won one.

That's so funny Michelle! I was hoping for Arizona before you mentioned that! Laughing

Actually Phoenix still has a chance to win, don't they!

Here's some sports trivia. I thought the Cardinals were a baseball team, and guess what, they are. St Louis Cardinals and Phoenix Cardinals have the same owner, hence both teams are called Cardinals. Do you think the owner is a birdbrain!

Michelle

Pshaw.  McCain was the underdog in the election too, but I wasn't cheering for him.  :D

I don't think I can stay up for the whole thing, though.  My eyelids are getting the better of me.

Papal Bull

Owners that name their teams after birds are clearly ornithologically inclined!

NorthReport

I was wondering how long the piper would last.

By-the-way Phoenix is on a roll - 5 minutes left. A converted touchdown could win it for them.

Michelle

I know.  Geez.  I'm jinxing it just by watching it.  I'm going to bed.

I do this to the Leafs, too.

Michelle

Wow, did you see that foul?  Holy crap.  Speaking of hockey!

Yeah, I thought it was Bertuzzi out there for a sec.

Ha!  So who are you cheering for, Sven?

NorthReport

Arizona down by only 4, and they have the ball. Two minutes left.

The Cardinals.  I like cheering for the underdog.

I'm sorry!  I didn't go to bed!  It's my fault!

NorthReport

Oh Michelle! Laughing

Sven Sven's picture

Unbelievable.  Old Man Warner does it again with Fitzgerald.

This would have to be the biggest upset in Super Bowl history if the Cards can hang on and win this thing.  It would be the biggest come-back in S.B. history, for sure.

That was awesome, I must admit.

I love it that Warner was washed up and out of the league.  What a comeback for old feller, too.

Michelle

But I'm too tired for a tie!

Sven Sven's picture

It's still not as good a game as hockey!!! Tongue out

Although, as a "television sport", it's hard to beat football.  But, live?  Hockey...all...the...way.

This is far from over - we could have a tie at the end of regulation time!

Your team still has a chance Michelle! All they need is a fieldgoal now.

Michelle

Yes yes yes!

NorthReport

Wow, the Steelers now could pull it off. Laughing

Michelle

Woo hoo!  YES YES YES!

Michelle

TOUCHDOWN!

Awfully hard to tell though, wasn't it??

NorthReport

And it looks like the Steelers will win - incroyable! Congrats Michelle

Michelle

Oh hey, I just chose the Steelers because I didn't want McCain's state to win. :D  I don't really have any horse in this race otherwise.  I'm not a huge football fan, I just like to watch the Superbowl.

Sven Sven's picture

That was great foot work by the receiver getting both feet in bounds.

Now, you see, this is when I should go to bed.  With my luck, Arizona will get a touchdown now in the last 35 seconds.

Sven Sven's picture

The Cardinals have been around since 1898...but have never won a Super Bowl.  Steelers?  This will be their Sixth Super Bowl win.

Highly unlikely, though.  The Steelers have the best defense...er, "defence"...in the league.

Hey, I'm just trying to make my best case for the down-n-out that I can!!  Laughing Laughing

Five seconds...

Michelle

Well, sorry guys. :)  But anything that makes McCain sad makes me happy!

Ah, well.  At least I found it hugely entertaining...

Good night!!!

So many football games are decided, both in Canada and the USA, in the last few minutes of the game. That's what makes football so exciting. It definitely was a great game!

Michelle

Yeah, I really should watch football more often instead of just the Superbowl game.  I always enjoy it so much when I do.  But I don't know who I'd cheer for.  I mean, I have no real attachment to any American cities, and I can't be bothered to follow individual players and their stats and stuff.  And I'm also never around on Sunday afternoons or evenings, which is often when it's on.

Anyhow, night all!

Papal Bull

Do what I do. Just cheer for the team with the funniest fans! Go Packers!

Also, I'm sure that if more members of this board knew about their economic slant, they'd probably roll with my cheese heads!

al-Qa'bong

Go Riders!

I didn't watch the game.  I pay no attention to the NFL.

I've noticed that among Canadians there's a lot more interest in the Superdooper bowl than there used to be.  Stores are catering to the fans with junkfood specials, etc.

Anyway, the last time I watched a Superdooperbowl was when the Washington Redskins played the Florida...(Marlins?) back in the early 1970s.  I don't remember who won, but I do remember that two guys who played in that game were named Chris Hanburger and Mercury Morris.

Michelle

It was the Miami Dolphins.  (I cannot tell a lie - google is my friend.)
