Another MP in trouble for failure to hate Arabs

Quote:
A Bloc Quebecois MP was upbraided for sending all of her colleagues in the House of Commons an anti-Israel email that paid tribute to groups listed in Canada as terrorist organizations.

Maria Mourani forwarded all 308 MPs an email with links to numerous articles and images that accuse the Jewish state of terrorism, question its legitimacy and glorify violence against it.

The note earned her a rebuke Wednesday from Prime Minister Stephen Harper, from the Jewish-rights organization B'nai Brith and a caution from her leader to be more careful.

Is she really in trouble for "failing to hate Arabs" or for sending an email from illegal terorist organizations?

Well, okay, a bit of hyperbole on my part. But it made you look, right?

Clearly it's not the second, so given your black & white POV, it must be the first.

Meanwhile, no one raises a fuss over the fact that a federal cabinet minister has fairly intimate links with the Muslim-hating Canadian Coalition for Democracies and loose associations at least with the Arab-hating Jewish Defence League.

No where does it say she was sending e-mails from "illegal terrorist organizations". Dude, you take the cake....

She should not have to apologize for speaking the truth. If you can't speak the truth there are serious issues in our so-called democracy.

What an incredibly dishonest thread title.  I don't think such dishonesty reflects well on babble.

Fine, not FROM them. Just feauturing and glorifying them

I DID read the article. Did you? If not, just read this excerpt:

"In one video link there's a graphic of a heart surrounding the image of the political leader of Hamas, while other videos show numerous flattering images of people draped in the group's iconic green bandana.

Canada's list of terrorist organizations includes three groups – Hamas, Islamic Jihad and al-Aqsa Martyr's Brigade – that receive laudatory treatment in the linked messages."

She's in trouble because people who share your pro-Israel pro-imperialist mentality rule in North America.

The blackmail goes so far that when someone merely suggests that Hezbollah and Hamas should be removed from the fraudulent "terrorist" list (i.e. a list which defines "terrorist" the way people like you do, namely, "inimical to the interests of imperialism and  Zionism"), the culpirt is made to kneel down, kiss the ground, and apologize.

In fact, Duceppe should be condemned for his cowardly stand, and Mourani obviously lacks the courage of her convictions, if the following is true:

Quote:

The Lebanese-Canadian MP has been an ardent and controversial critic of Israel.

She was forced to apologize in 2006 when she accused Israel of committing war crimes during the bombing of Lebanon.

And here comes the blackmail, to which all must yield or be exiled forever:

Quote:
B'nai Brith Canada said Mourani should be more responsible in the future.

"Maria Mourani has admitted that she failed to watch all the videos that were linked to the email she disseminated to fellow parliamentarians," said Frank Dimant, the group's executive vice president.

"This irresponsible action makes her an unwitting tool in the spread of dangerous hate."

Whatever your views on what Maria Mourani did or didn't do. The title of this thread is absurd and offensive and ought to be changed. It sounds like it was written by the people who came up with "Paul Martin supports child pornography" and does absolutely NOTHING to advance Maria Mourani's cause.

I agree, Stock. Is there a moderator around who could change the thread title?

Why does Ms. Mourani not have more courage to stand by her convictions? She could have stood by her email and dealt with whatever Duceppe ended up doing.

Whatever your views on Hamas and Israel, it seems  to be a huge problem in this country that our elected officials cannot stick to any sort of principle. What the hell is the point of varying flavours of Liberal? Bill Casey would be one of the few willing to stick to his principles, regardless of consequence. Other MPs would do well to notice the popular reception he received in the election following this and how horribly his former party did.

MPs don't always benefit from being kicked out of their parties. Look at Bev Desjarlais, the anti-SSM renegade in the NDP - after being dumped she ran as an Independent and was totally humiliated.

Who?

What do you mean by no one? or do you mean that a press release is ignored when issued?

what are loose associations? I ask because you are either associated with a group or not.

I ask becasue their are organizations that I state that I am a member of because I am a member of their listserve even if I am not a dues paying member.

Well, yes - but it depends if they are doing their job or not, which is representing their constituents. Obviously Desjarlais's constituents were in favour of equal rights for homosexual Canadians so they voted her out based on this. Casey's constituents saw that he was going independant based on their interests, not based on personal religious dogma or whatever.

If this Bloc MP's constituents agree with what she is doing, they will return her to parliament as an independent.

I am just saying that whatever your political views, would it not be a breath of fresh air to have more MPs acting on their principles?

It seems that every day there is another politican "apologizing" or "retracting" something that they suddently realized was not their (party's) views.  Have some courage people! It can only increase cynicism, as the general public know these apologies aren't their real feelings, but the required mealy-mouthed dance to remain a disciplined party member devoid of anything by the latest approved talking points.
