With Global on the verge of selling of some tv stations I think this would be a great opportunity for the left to get some national presence. The red deer station looks like a good choice as it's right smack in the middle of Alberta (red neck tory land supreme).

I would make it a super station and place it on satellite as a specialty channel...just think an in your face left channel providing real competition against right wing garbage tv.

Whether it's CTV or CNN, they tend to broadcast the full range of political viewpoints 24-7-365.25, from your extreme rightwing corporatist ideologues on the take to your more pragmatic lackeys on the extreme centre-right. It's all good.

That aside, I wonder who would be the commercial sponsors of this new media juggernaut? A "lefty" television channel with either a ridiculous revenue model or none at all would be kind of living the cliche, wouldn't it?

In a real democracy, no particular group would monopolize television or radio broadcast time or front pages of news print. In dollar democracies, those with the money control the information. In our case, for every 18 minutes of TV situation comedy we must be brainwashed with 12 minutes of commercial advertising for their crappy products, as if we might forget what our designated roles are as citizens living within the larger plutocracy.

Is that what they're for?

For all these years I thought commercials were what paid for the production of the television shows I like, and was why I didn't have to fork out money to watch them.

Well, I sure hope this new Lefty television channel has none of those! If it needs revenues to sustain its operation, maybe it could hold an organic, macrobiotic bake sale, or raffle off an autographed picture of Ed Broadbent.

OK. We've got the television station, and we've clearly got the business know-how. What's next?

The tv station wouldn't even have to be on air 24/7....a simple 6am till midnight would suffice in Canada...just like the old days. Advertising would actually be more favourable for green products on a lefty channel than on a right wing dog eat dog network.

Even just running rabble tv on there which I can't even access on my computer (slow speed) would be great.

Something has got to be done because right now it's obvious to me anyways that the liberals are being groomed for running the country by the present networks....If you don't like harper then Iggy is the answer...that's the message. Every opportunity to paint Jack layton as a fool is pretty well gauranteed. Lib/tory coalition =good , anything with NDP =bad. Canadians suck it up! The NDP has already been framed, they must fight back.

Oh... a TV station that does the same to Iggy and Harper and echos what is on this internet site would chew them up and spit them out....easy pickens. Popularity would rise and so would ad revenue...crushing the right wing networks in the process and their ideology.

This is also a great opportunity because we are presently watching a "socialism for the rich only"system do it's thing while pulling the wool over the tax payers eyes. Talk about free advertising! Can you imagine Canadians actually figuring out how they are being swindeled out of their money at a ratio of $60 for big wigs and there perks while only $1 goes to them and it's their very own money yet. Dumb as sticks doesn't even cover that stupidity.

Or better yet canadians figuring out that maybe having a panel of big wigs that created the financial destruction of our economy for their own selfish gain isn't a good idea.

Or figuring out how giving their money to big oil so they can give you illness and heath problems that eventually would bankrupt the health system is very bad for them.

You can go on forever filling the vast vacum of info that isn't in the Canadian brain.
