City TV Camera man moonlighting for developer

In a bizarre twist a crew that had pruported to be with CITY TV was in fact hired by Empire to video the protestors.  The information came to light after the camera man got into a confrontation with a Turtle Island News reporter camera man and assaulted him.  The City TV camera man then got into a verbal exchange with Turtle Island News editor Lynda Powless when he refused to identify himself.  The man had been interviewing protestors who thought he was there for CITY TV.  Powless was concerned about the credentials of the two men and the cameraman verbally assaulted Powless. "During the Reclamation in Caledonia there was a number of people posing as reporters, camera men and media people," she said "As a journalist I become concerned when I see another media person not acting in a professional manner, refusing to identify themselves and not wearing any media credentials.  It looked suspicious so I just went over there and asked him who he was and he became abusive," she said.  Kathleen O'Keefe ann investigator for CHUM TV the owners of CITY TV says that the cameraman does work for them but he was not assigned to be in Brantford to cover any protests.  She said CHUM TV has concerns about the situation and that the actions of the cameraman does not reflect CHUM TV of CITY TV's  views

Video on the page of confrontation.

"Concern" is clearly not enough here. Does CITY not have any sense of journalistic integrity?

If CITY doesn't put this conniving weasel out on his ass pronto, there should be a massive demonstration held at Queen & John.

I agree LTJ, but let's face it, in all my life experience I have never seen and heard as much racism as that expressed toward First Nations people. Mass demonstrations? Ha, we can barley get the media to print anything about the FN experience, unless it is negative.

I am beginning to think that short of some good lefties, we have no freaking allies. FN people are looked at as the scum of the earth. It makes me sick. It makes me sad and mostly it makes me feel utterly powerless.

Stargazer. If the protest had huffing you know the CBC would have been all over it though.

I agree with you, Stargazer. It's pathetic the lack of any critical analysis, or even a counter-voice to the hate in the mainstream media. It allows the Canadian governments, at all levels, to carry on business as usual, oppressing, suppressing and marginalizing.

The camera operator was presumably using CITY-TV equipment, yes? While not working on a job assigned by his employer? Aren't there any penalties for this, FFS? Never mind being fraudulent to the people at the protest and being verbally abusive.

On the video on the website I didn't see any particular markings on the camera equipment however the SUV they arrived in had CITY-TV markings all over it.  They did refuse to show their media credentials, though.  I would hope that there was some type of misrepresentation penatlies within the profession but not being a journalist, I don't know.
