The Asian Arts Freedom School is an art-based radical Asian history and activism program for Asian/Pacific Islander youth in the Greater Toronto Area. We cover various artforms including writing, spoken word, music, visual arts, film, theatre.

If you're interested, have questions, or want to pre-register, please get in touch with the director and lead artist Gein Wong or our program coordinator Kenji Tokawa at [email protected].

Because you want to be able to tell your family's stories. Because you don't know your family's stories. Because you want to be able to tell your own story. Because we're the only ones who can tell our stories. Because we are the ones we've been waiting for.

The Asian Arts Freedom School is supported by grants from Artreach Toronto, Toronto Arts Council, the City of Toronto and the Ontario Arts Council, agency of the Government of Ontario

This is really interesting Maysie! I'm so far away. Do you know if these folks have a website or anywhere I could learn/see more? Without coming to TO that is!

PS: Babble's activism forum is the best add for life in Toronto I've seen! Perhaps the only good one I have seen Wink

Hey D. I don't think they have a website, but they do have a facebook group. They have basically zero resources.

They used to be just for youth, but this latest call out doesn't have that restriction.

I wish more babblers outside of Toronto would post in the activism forum, so it wouldn't be mostly about Toronto. And I hear about a lot of things that are mostly in Toronto. I go to most of the events I post (can't go to all of them!), and I like passing on info.

If the level of activism across the country is anywhere near as high as it is in TO, it would be nice to see the forum reflect that, I agree. I'd post something about activism here where I live, but what qualifies as activism in this tiny rural town isn't exactly on a level with TO. I didn't mean to complain about the lack of info on events outside of Toronto though; I'm just jealous that I can't go to this kind of event! Anyway I will be moving back to Halifax for a while starting later this month and intend to dive back into local activism there (and expend those activist energies which have been pent-up in this little town). I will make a point of posting any Haligonian events I can here, once I get involved again... afterall we wouldn't want to give the idea that Toronto is the centre of the universe or anything Wink
