rabble.ca is 8 years old! We're celebrating with events in Vancouver and Toronto - here's the Toronto event:

WHAT'S WRONG WITH OUR NEWSPAPERS?

A lively discussion with Peter C. Newman, Linda McQuaig, and Wayne MacPhail.

Moderated by rabble.ca President Duncan Cameron.

DATE: Thursday, April 16th, 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 7)

PLACE: Koffler Auditorium, 569 Spadina Crescent

COST: $10 or PWYC. FREE for rabble.ca members.

Peter C. Newman is the recipient of seven honourary doctorates, and has won every journalism award there is, and has been appointed a Companion to the Order of Canada. He is the author of 24 books.

Linda McQuaig is a best-selling author of seven books on politics and economics, and an award-winning journalist.

Wayne MacPhail has been a print and online journalist for over 20 years. He is now president of w8nc, a communications company specializing in emerging technologies.

Duncan Cameron is an adjunct professor of political science at Simon Fraser University, a director of the Karl Polanyi Institute of Political Economy at Concordia University in Montreal, and author of many books.

I hope to see some babblers there! Please introduce yourself to me if you come, I'd love to meet you! I'll be the one wandering around making sure things are running smoothly at the ticket tables and such. :)

As for dinner, you sure know how to say no to a gal dontcha?

A simple "I'm busy" would suffice.

I guess rabble needs Newman to 'balance' Linda McQuaig's radicalism. Anyway, as much as I'm excited at the prospect of eating out in Chinatown with Maysie, I cannae make it.

Maysie, I think Tommy must have put the "not" in there by accident. :) Who wouldn't be quietly envious of those going out to supper with you? Speaking of which, yeah, I have to get there at 6 to start setting up. Unless you want to have a REALLY early supper... ;)

I just received a notice to get there on time (what, a lefty event starting on time? *ducks*) since a lot of people are expected.

P.S. MIchelle I can't meet earlier as I have a training gig in the west-ish end of the city that ends at 4:45 or so.

Was my grammar off? To be "quietly envious" seems a little creepy to me-- like "Tim the ostler" in Alfred Noyes "The Highwayman". To be "not quietly envious" is to proclaim one's envy loudly.

Right or wrong, my sentence structure seems to be influenced to no small percentage by my readings of Messers Lincoln, Seward and Chase, of late.

It would be grand, in my eyes, for a social intersection between Rebecca West, Michelle and what would be this unpollished igneous rock set amoungst such fine jewells. But alas, I seem to be in the same aquatic conveyance as Papal Bull these days. When I have time, it's because I'm not working. And that means rendering tighter the leather strap that upholds my pants.

But, we shall look forward to the happy intersection of pecuniary interests and social intercourse.

Now that you've parsed it out, for slow-witted Maysie, I don't think your grammar was off. It seems to be my reading comprehension.

Also, I didn't understand the rest of your post #10, but I'm also very tired right now. But thanks, TommyP.

I saw a number of babblers last night, any comments on the event? How was the drinking after, was that where the real fun happened?
