All fathers should pay child support

She cannot, by herself.

However, when a court makes an adoption order, if she has given up the child for adoption, she ceases to be the mother and is no longer liable for child support.

I take it you would argue that the father remains the father until a step-father adopts. And that's true, for normal fathers.

Good luck trying to extend that to sperm donors.
