Bristol Palin says abstinence is "not realistic"

In some parts of Alaska, you can actually see the obvious

"No. I don't want to get into detail about that," Palin responded. "But I think abstinence is, like -- like, the -- I don't know how to put it -- like, the main -- everyone should be abstinent or whatever, but it's not realistic at all."

Was she actually having sex at the time?  Or can she no use words good?

Michelle

Heh.  Well, the mean reply would be that she comes by it honestly, Snert. ;)  But if you watch the video clip, you'll see that it's just the usual conversational breaks and hesitations that any inexperienced person would make during a live interview when they are nervous.

Ghislaine

The interviewer is horrible. did anyone else see the question "So...were you lazy or are you religiously opposed to contraception?"

She basically just asked the poor girl if she used a condom or not. Very classy. A better question would have been to ask her what she was taught. It must have been very difficult for her to speak out about this and say that abstinence-only education and that expectation aren't realistic.  Good for her to say that.

Cute little guy though...to bad about the unfortunately name!

Michelle

Oh yeah, Greta Van Susteren is a really nasty piece of work when it comes to interviewing and, well, journalism in general.

And, like, duh, Greta.  There's a baby, so obviously there wasn't much in the way of contraception happening.

What? No comments on my clever play on words! Surprised

Isn't there a clever play on words about how you must enjoy fishing?

Or begging.

I can see the obvious from my house!

P.S. Women get pregnant every day even when they use contraception (especially those who use condoms only with no other back up).

The best part of the video is when Greta Van Susteren suggests that feminists should give Todd Palin an award!

Accidental Altruist

"do you want this joy?"

Ugh. retch.

Way to whitewash over Bristol's experiences.

And, now let's hear from :

Quote:

Please avail yourself of the clip on Banks' Web site, in which the talk show host grills him about whether Sarah Palin knew if he was having sex with her daughter ("I’m pretty sure she probably knew … moms are pretty smart") and if the couple practiced safe sex.

"Yeah," he responds, in a flat, utterly unconvincing way, like the kid who tells you he was not eating chocolate even as it is smeared all over his face.

"Even when the baby was conceived?" Tyra asks.

"We were."

Banks persists. "And there were just … wardrobe malfunctions?"

"I guess."

Oh come now, Levi. You did get the girl pregnant. Banks, disbelieving, continues to lean on him -- even his sister is shaking her head beside him on the couch -- until Johnston finally caves, saying, with a blush and a smirk, "Most of the time."

Ghislaine

I feel badly for Bristol. It must be mortifying to have your ex talking like his on national TV. As if she has not been through enough - wonder how much Levi got paid by Tyra Banks for this trash?

yes - you mean you have been paying attention to news that is actually important? Tongue out

Wow, thanks for the update, though I must say it was expected. Any particular reason for it? Is he going to be a hands on dad, or just another young puke?

Rarely watch gossip shows, or news, unless I am looking for something in particular to see how it is being spun.

Um who knows but if you want gossip here's a good summary of the 'gossip' that was flying around about it.  Smile

Well now, that is happenings and happenings.

I guess the Palin family values do not extend to supporting your partner  in good times and in bad, and are more worried about the "drug charges" impacting upon themselves and their future.

That poor poor baby!

Michelle

Levi needs to get himself a good lawyer, pronto.  Judges don't take kindly these days to parents who alienate their children from the other parent.  Of course, visiting the baby every day is an unreasonable child access demand, but he should not be denied proper access, nor should he be denied the right to allow his child to associate with his family.

I'm just so glad those people are reproducing.

We are indeed devolving.

Bristol Palin Says Girls Don't "Get" The Consequences Of Sex

From Jezebel: http://jezebel.com/5262498/bristol-palin-says-girls-dont-get-the-consequences-of-sex

"In a truly depressing new People magazine cover story, Bristol Palin once again attempts to turn her life into a cautionary tale for other teens.

In order to do so, she must, with the help of People, imply that her life totally sucks. People helpfully mentions that she didn't appear at all in her high school class's graduation slideshow, and that she spent graduation night "not with a gang of friends but at home, giving her 5-month-old son a bottle while her extended family plays 'Eskimo bingo.'" Bristol adds that she has had to write a school paper while listening to her son cry, and that "girls need to imagine and picture their life with a screaming newborn baby and then think before they have sex." But perhaps the strangest thing about the article is her statement that,

If girls realized the consequences of sex, nobody would be having sex. Trust me. Nobody."

The full People Magazine story is available here: http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20280071,00.html?xid=rss-tophead...

Gay men and women might. Also, fans of oral sex, anal sex, mutual masturbation, and a host of other orgasm-inducers that don't necessarily introduce a sperm to an egg.

Of course it's telling that all of these horrors of parenthood are supposed to make young women graft their thighs together permanently, instead of, say, using reliable birth control and then getting their funk on.

You can watch part of Meghan McCain's appearance on Colbert on Jezebel, too:

Meanwhile, John McCain's daughter Meghan is going around on a publicity tour stating she is pro-sex, pro-abotion,  pro-birth control and pro-gay marriage, and every other pro, because she feels Bristol is incorrect and being harmful to young women,  and that Palin's mother, and her ilk, have high-jacked the Republican Party.

Apparently, abstinence is now realistic.

Quote:
People magazine has unveiled a sneak peek of its exclusive one-on-one with Bristol Palin. The issue, which hits stands Friday, features a photo of the recent high school grad on its cover: Clad in her cap and gown, she holds up baby Tripp like he's her diploma. It's Anne Geddes meets Diane Arbus -- and that's just the grand entrance to this carnival of chastity. The article mainly tells us what we already know: The 18-year-old often has sleepless nights, in which she rises multiple times to feed her son, for instance. But there is one quote amid the prosaic details of motherhood that is very, very sad: "If girls realized the consequences of sex, nobody would be having sex," she says. "Trust me. Nobody."

remind remind's picture

It is a very sad commentary by Bristol, as it indicates that she is being forced to be the care giver for the "consequence" she does not really want. And probably never did. Plus much more of course.

She has not given the impression that she is being forced at all. In the interview with Greta Van Susteran (the one where called abstinence-only education unrealistic), she was asked what irked her the most about the non-stop media coverage of the intimate details of her life. She replied that the repeated notion that it was not her choice to have and keep Tripp. If she is really being forced as you say, she could give him up for adoption - although from all accounts and her interviews this is not something she wants.  The People article noted that as she was receiving her diploma, she was scanning the crowd for her little guy.

I really feel badly for this young woman.  She deserves Kudos for graduating, but the media coverage is ridiculous. Breakups are difficult enough at 18. Throw in a baby, an ex hungry for his 15 mins of fame and an even hungrier media.....

And to give her the benefit of the doubt, her original comment on abstinence was right after giving birth and while supposedly still with Levi. Three months of parenting and a messy breakup/visition fights may have influenced her opinion.
