Several First Nations feel snubbed; will not support bill to map Far North

Given what is happening at the Dump Site 41, Caledonia, and elsewhere throughout the province and now this, it would seem Ontario is doing its colonial overlord best.

Quote:
Several First Nations say they will not support a bill to map land in the Far North, since they were excluded by the provincial government's consultation process.

Nishnawbe Aski Nation is asking for the withdrawal of the proposed act, saying First Nations can't support it without four key changes to allow more participation by their communities and give them a chance to profit from natural resources if needed.

"We want to make sure that future generations have an opportunity to look at resource development when and wherever is appropriate, and we feel we must have a say on what happens on our homelands," said Grand Chief Stan Beardy of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation, or NAN, which represents 49 First Nation communities in Ontario's Far North.

"We're not against saving the planet, but it cannot be at our expense."
