I talked about this subject in the past and apparently its a real trend here in Canada as yet another Ponzi scheme in Alberta estimated at 100 million. Harper promises changes as is going to come down hard on white collar crime. But always willing to help a fellow politician out as Justice Bennett is pulled off the case and BC Premier Campbell gets an out and Kinsella a home free.

Obama warns Wall Street "We will not go back to the day of reckless behavior and unchecked access at the heart of this crisis" but Canada will be more than happy to as deregulation is the buzz word and no one is watching so no wonder Ponzi Schemes galore as if Obama isn't going to let the schemers have free rein Canada will.

While I agree that the comment from Mr. Canada is inane and displays a distinct lack of insight into the world we live in that doesn't change the fact that in this story race looks to be irrelevant and the thread title is nonsenscial unless somehow the race of a thief is an important factor. I suspect as well that the vast majority of these fraudsters victims were white themselves. Mr Canada's reaction was in fact why I thought ironic statements around race and other issues is discouraged. The thread title trolled for a response and Mr C provided it.

The thing that caught my attention was some of the people who got conned. A school principle lost a bundle and was whining about it. Come on how stupid do you have to be to believe that you can make 40% returns legally?

If the guy was black would the title "Black men" be tolerated here at Rabble? Of coarse not and the person who posted it would be banned so why are we allowing to occur here?

Our point exactly, while equality to you 2 apparently means white men get to hog it all, and do whatever they want, without people noting what they are doing. And BTW, it is mostly white men scamming people's money in case you had not noticed.

And in case you do not realize it, news reports all the time state, perhaps more obliquely than they used to, people's skin colour. Or if it was left out one autonmatically knew it was a white person. For example, the press release on Jaffer indicated he was from Uganda, just another way to say he is not a white Canadian man.

According to Jacki-mo and Mr.Canada_ts, it would now be inappropriate to mention whiteness. Pointing out privilege where it lies (and lies, and lies...) would be "beyond the pale." What a cynical cooptation attempt of our efforts to end the stereotyping of members of political minorities! What next, censoring any critical allusion to who has the money, vs. who doesn't? Censoring any representation of real-life violence against prostituted folks because it makes prostitution look bad?

Would you use race as a defining factor if the person wasn't white?
