Susan Boyle outsells Beatles!
al-Qa'bong

I hear that the Beatles are releasing their catalogue once more, and are also on a RockBand video game.

Is this really necessary; isn't Paul McCartney rich enough?

Michelle

I thought it was Michael Jackson's estate that gets rich from the Beatles.

In fact, Paul McCartney had to PAY Michael Jackson, every time he performed one of his own songs, like "Hey Jude"!

Am I the only one who has a problem with this thread title?

Michelle

Holy crap.  I didn't even know what "singing musk ox" was referring to.  I'm sorry.  I meant to click on the link to see what new fad "the singing musk ox" was, and got sidetracked by al-Q's comment about Paul McCartney.

The thread title is about to be changed, and highryder can find another board to post his misogyny.

martin dufresne

Bravo. I was stunned too when I checked this out last night...

Does that mean he is, at long last, gone?

Michelle

Yes.

Ok, now that that's done, can someone explain to me how Susan Boyle can outsell the Beatles? Or is that only for a day or something?

Michelle

The article explains. :)

Oops. I didn't open the link either. I thought it was a goofy story about a musk ox, and hence didn't bother.

So, Jacko's corpse needs to be even richer?

The History Channel just ran a show on Charles Manson. Is there a connexion with the new Beatles release? Is Armageddon nigh?

The signs are there. I was reading an article by Leonard Pelletier today in which he noted that Squeaky Fromme just got out of jail. When I looked up that story I found that Sadie Mae Glutz is dying of brain cancer.

Only to you, it seems.

al-Qa'bong

Whew, that was some zinger!

Did you stay awake until 0345 to write that, or did you get up early?

Michelle

Ha!

Did you just dredge up that Manson thing out of thin air? Or did Tinkerbell and her friends whisper it to you in your ear after a night of straight toking?

al-Qa'bong

This just keeps getting better.

In the first place, dredging is usually a subaquatic operation, and hardly something one does in "thin air," as any Sky Captain worth his wings would know.

Secondly, it's fairly common knowledge that Charles Manson's motivation for mass murder was in part his interpretation of certain Beatles songs, especially those found on "The White Album."

To show how common is this knowledge, a pop culture reference to this is in the lyrics to the Boomtown Rats' song, Go Man Go.

In his book, Helter Skelter, Manson trial prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi explores the links between Manson's crimes and his belief that the Beatles were speaking to him through their music.

Here's a page that summarises what Bugliosi wrote:

Or as referenced in this cover of Helter Skelter by U2. "This is a song Charles Manson stole from the Beatles; we're stealing it back."

It's a good cover. However, only Bono could think himself singing a song, in and of itself, is an act of redemption.

But I digress.

Look, if you all don't like the attention the Fab Four are getting, just say so. But please don't use Charles Manson as a reason.

al-Qa'bong

Get with the times, Daddy-O, it's the "Fab Two" now; or can't you tell that up there with Lucy and the diamonds and all?

Sky Captain Sky Captain's picture

Whatever-just stop giving them heck. They didn't piss in your soup, or spit in your pizza, and as I said, if you don't like them, fine. There's no need to keep bringing Charles Manson into things-do you bring up the Mafia whenever there's talk about Frank Sinatra?

al-Qa'bong

How did I "keep bringing" Manson into this?  I mentioned him once, then I had to explain the reference to you.  I like the Beatles, but I detest marketers, which is who I was talking about.

I'd go on, and at this point probably make an unwarranted personal attack, but I'VE GOT BLISTERS ON MY FINGERS!
