The adjective Orwellian describes the situation, idea, or societal condition that George Orwell identified as being destructive to the welfare of a free society. It connotes an attitude and a policy of control by propaganda, surveillance, misinformation, denial of truth, and manipulation of the past, including the "unperson" — a person whose past existence is expunged from the public record and memory, practiced by modern repressive governments. Often, this includes the circumstances depicted in his novels, particularly Nineteen Eighty-Four.
Orwell's ideas about personal freedom and state authority developed when he was a British colonial administrator in Burma. He was fascinated by the effect of colonialism on the individual person, requiring acceptance of the idea that the colonialist oppressor exists only for the good of the oppressed person and people.
There has also been a great deal of discourse on the possibility that Orwell galvanized his ideas of oppression during his experience, and his subsequent writings in the English press, in Spain. Orwell was a member of the POUM militia and suffered suppression and escaped arrest by the Comintern faction working within the Republican Government. Following his escape he made a strong case for defending the Spanish revolution from the Communists there, and the mis-information in the press at home. During this period he formed strong ideas about the reportage of events, and their context in his own ideas of imperialism and democracy. In 1940 he engaged himself in the practise of supporting mis-information for a revolutionary purpose with the Lion and the Unicorn: Socialism and the English Genius. A counter-point to his previous work, immediately after his return from Spain, Homage to Catalonia. Homage was elementary in Orwell's definition of the process of truth-power connection and its relevance to ideas of freedom versus authority, whereas Lion & Unicorn was a formative piece of 'propaganda'. The narrative of the two is one that informed Orwell's later works such as 1984 and Animal Farm.
The adjective Orwellian refers to these behaviours of State and The Party, especially when the Party is the State:
- The political manipulation of language, by obfuscation, e.g. WAR IS PEACE. Using language to obfuscate meaning or to reduce and eliminate ideas and their meanings that are deemed dangerous to its authority.

Surveillance (pronounced /sərˈveɪ.əns/ or /sərˈveɪləns/[1]) is the monitoring of the behavior, activities, or other changing information, usually of people and often in a surreptitious manner. It most usually refers to observation of individuals or groups by government organizations, but disease surveillance, for example, is monitoring the progress of a disease in a community.
The word surveillance comes from the French word for "watching over".
The word surveillance may be applied to observation from a distance by means of electronic equipment (such as CCTV cameras), or interception of electronically transmitted information (such as Internet traffic or phone calls). It may also refer to simple, relatively no- or low-technology methods such as human intelligence agents and postal interception.
Surveillance is very useful to governments and law enforcement to maintain social control, recognize and monitor threats, and prevent/investigate criminal activity. With the advent of programs such as the Total Information Awareness program and ADVISE, technologies such as high speed surveillance computers and biometrics software, and laws such as the Communications Assistance For Law Enforcement Act, governments now possess an unprecedented ability to monitor the activities of their subjects.[2]

It's increasingly a feature of our daily lives, because businesses have found that it makes good business sense. But is corporate snooping out of control?
In Britain, we are all familiar with the CCTV cameras that have sprung up across our city centres and transport networks.
We generally accept that they are there to counter crime and help monitor traffic flows on our busy roads.
But how many of us realise that when we travel about, each of us is captured, on average, 300 times a day on CCTV, and should we be concerned?
Of course, if we look up, we can see the CCTV cameras. We know they're there.
But are they just the visible tip of a much larger and more deep-rooted surveillance society?

Its primary tool is privatization. Managed democracy aims at the “selective abdication of governmental responsibility for the well-being of the citizenry” under cover of improving “efficiency” and cost-cutting.
Wolin argues, “The privatization of public services and functions manifests the steady evolution of corporate power into a political form, into an integral, even dominant partner with the state. It marks the transformation of American politics and its political culture from a system in which democratic practices and values were, if not defining, at least major contributing elements, to one where the remaining democratic elements of the state and its populist programs are being systematically dismantled.” This campaign has largely succeeded. “Democracy represented a challenge to the status quo, today it has become adjusted to the status quo.”

Truncated is a term we used to use in mathematics and computer science to indicate a number whose figures had been chopped off. We distinguished it from "rounding" which was a better mathematical technique. I suppose it's a kind of mathematical criticism of clumsy computer based operations.
Anyway, I was simply trying to use these words in a new way to draw attention to the harm being done to our already truncated democracy. Yes?

It occurred to me that one could find them self in a situation where rationalization could be interpreted as, an activist approach to some "left sounding agenda" when it was really about the question of that particular situation, while saying, "one's right and freedoms," not as a sign of some kooky identifying factor, but more of, what "is" a sign of the times.
Some people while asleep, cannot fathom that such a corporate strategy could exist. Concessionary bargaining, about BREAKING DOWN RESISTANCE, more then a negotiated process?
It was really then about defining a realistic perception about the reality of, and how one can combat it. So you look for appropriate actions to offer resistance too.

So here's the thing, one can have a perception about the current state of the way society appears to them. One might think a better suited proposition for the future of, a view, that if we impose these conditions, this will have an effect on society in this way.
So this is not some superiority egoistically individually drafted geometer recognized move to reality but one of a complex effort of seeing organization on a activist level from some 10th floor building. As if, twittering our street people down below.
It is, as if looking at "the terrain of society" and saying, how such impositions can be placed, while we are being involved at the street level, but just did not really ever know the bigger picture. Did not know what the future would look like.
This an effective reposition of the changes in society historically that lead Roman armies to implement infrastructure and organization to how it fought once as sheepherders How they looked at the terrain, who then went on and fought the ocean wayfarers that like to hug the coastlines for fear of being consumed.
So what are some of the things taking place that you did not know about? That you were not happy with. Let's say in regard to the economic realization of efforts to provide new incentive for economical correction. Thinking, in idealized way, that a new order might be introduced.
Who's introducing it? What is their agenda?

Earlier in the year I provide this thread inquiry to draw attention to the possibility of how one may reorganize "at a mathematical level" to have it transpose itself into a idealized production manifested as a "cultural and society interaction." Some reacted to it, as I did to the economic situation, but this is a case in point about awareness of changes that can take place in society, while we were not aware of it, or how such proposals can affect the outcome in our everyday dealings, as if working at the street level(sheep).

George Orwell wrote about what he experienced, extrapolating from his experience with government and power politics to create the fictional societies and systems depicted in 1984 and Animal Farm. Issues of privacy, private vs. public control of the individual - these are problems that have always been prevalent in human society. Technology has allowed a more overt invasion of what we assume to be our privacy, but that need to control and manipulate the individual has always been apparent.
I find it helpful to always assume that the only private space I have is between my ears. All else is readily available to any individual or organization that chooses to gather that superfluous information.

For now, Rebecca, for now. There are people saying that technological singularity is coming. Big brother wants to dominate not only our space but outer and inner space as well. DNA computers capable of billions of calculations per second are a few years old now. And they can fit a trillion of those in a test tube. Apparently the world is about to become even smaller.

Exactly. remain vigilant. I think that the struggle for democracy will be so much more complex for the next generation. There will be wonderful advances in science and technology, and medicine. And I think that it will have real impact on medicare and the principle of universality. The next generation will have to continue the fight for social democracy.

There is no doubt here, but as Fidel points out, it s a new generation that will be taking part in what is being planned now.
You have to understand that the workplace environment is not just the place you work, but there is an world inside of the place you work that is being controlled as to what union executives are being pigeon holed too, that the work of taking care of their organizations means to keep connection through those intranets to the outside world and within it.
How shall you challenge a "closed shop to a organization" that has been granted the rights to allow workers information that is union material as to their rights as members of that organization within that work force?
I assure you that reactionary modes are indeed anger fear, aggressive passiveness, to the helplessness a new order in technology produces. So while we contend with that space between our ears there is a whole host of thinking that goes on that can ask one to respond to the opinions they are forming. How they shall respond critically to the nature of the times.
