Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman detained at Canadian border

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2009/11/26/bc-amy-goodman-border-incident.html

She was held interrogated for 90 minutes and the Immigration Gestapo searched her car. They also demanded to know

what she'd be talking about in Vancouver and Victoria and insisted she leave the country within 48 hours.

Apparently, they were trying to intimidate her into not making any comments about the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Thanks for posting this Ken.

I can sleep soundly now, knowing that the thought police are keeping us safe from alternative media.

Hey all, here is audio of her explaining being detained by Canada Border Services and questioned about whether her talk would focus on the Olympics. It is worth the listen (it was recorded for the rabble booklounge by Alexandra Samur).

Michelle

Unbelievable!  She should be filing complaints, and so should the organizers of the event she talked at.  I hope she took names of the officials who tried to intimidate her!

Stories like this make me wonder if online discussion forums such as this are being monitored by the feds.

Tell me it couldn't be true, not in a free and open democracy!!

Boom Boom's on the mark, it can be assumed that anyone speaking against the Olympics, or critical of our governments, has been deemed "subversive" - especially on blogs like this one.  Assuming or hoping otherwise is naive......

I'm hoping that, given her treatment by "our" oficials, Ms Goodman takes more of an interest in the erosions of civil liberties and democratic process in Canada and in BC, in no small part because - especially in BC's case - they relate to the buy-out of government services/agencies and crown corps by American companies - and the buyout of our politicians, too.  Cases like CN's corrupt purchase/lease of BC Rail and Accenture's equally questionable takeover of BC Hydro, Maximus' takeover of BC health care records and EDS Solutions' assistance in deleting court evidence relating to the BC Rail trial......that's just for starters.  Our own mainstream media won't cover it, though our independent media TRY (without any political effect, sadly).....maybe once American journalists start covering the subversion of Canadian democracy by American/international capital interets our media, if not our politicians, will be forced to sit up and take notice.....

I hope Ms Goodman tries to "run" our border again soon......and we should keep an eye out for other journalists who are equally deemed "undesirable" or "subversive" by the trained monkeys who run our border......probably others less-notable have already been turned back, others WILL be....

Of course they are, as well as by the RCMP and CSIS. Maybe even by the Vancouver Police Department. Laughing

Here is more on the story, from Democracy Now! They also link back to stories on the CBC as well as the rabble podcast above.

If they weren't, and didn't have us in some colour coded file already, I'd have to question their thoroughness and competence.  Then again with all things being considered, perhaps we may indeed have been completely overlooked.

Well apparently the feds and their counterparts in the US weren't too concerned with a person named /msg00224.html]Ali Mohamed back in 1993. The Top Al-CIA'duh hijacking specialist apparently told the feds to call an FBI agent who then vouched for the US military sargent and Al-CIA'duh capo at the time.

So, yeah, I think the feds are still far more interested in leftwingers, union leaders, human rights activists etc than they have been notoriously uninterested in rounding up al-CIA-duh's own Islamic Gladios.

And here the US Republican Party was blowing the whistle on their better half for working with Al-CIA-duh in creating a militant Islamic base in Bosnia, and several years after the general timeframe which the CIA alleges to have broken all ties to Osama bin Laden and CIA's anticommunist jihadis in Central Asia.

Say HI to the ECHELON/Stupidity and "Prosperity" Partnership spooks, everyone. And give'm the bird!

This is a letter I sent to Democracy Now.

Ms. Goodman

I am deeply offended by the way Canadain border officials treated you recently while visiting Canada.  The climate of fear and hostility being created by the present Canadian government is intolerable.  The Green Party of Canada has issued a statement on the incident expressing our concern.  I wish to thank you for your work, especially concerning Haiti where I work as a volunteer on annual trips. Democracy Now and its work is a vital element to our collective democracy in North America.
