There's no way Harper could do well in an election supporting the HST.

It wouldn't lose him one single vote in Québec, and I think this is a fairly important battleground for him, no? I dread the idea of basing any election campaign on tax policy.

I agree about basing a campaign entirely on tax policy, but it does seem like a wedge that could get some traction outside of Quebec, and that's where the Cons need to be driven down.

So let me get this straight. We don't have enough people unemployed in Canada so we have to job out overseas, for goodness sake, the manufacturing of Canadian flags.

Let us hope Harper does not copy the Speedo trick.

Harper's giving a big fuck you to Parliament.

Canadians should be outraged over this, but will they be?

After his surge in the polls earlier this fall, Harper is beginning to return to his old ways and letting his arrogance get the better of him again.

Yesterday's poll shows that he is back in minority government territory again and losing credibility on the Afghan abuse issue.

It is not actually the Afghanistan detainee issue that has torpedoed support for Harper, it is the clear distain for Parliament and democracy in his reactions; people are finally noticing.

The detainee issue isn't an election threat. Canadians vote incumbents out but they vote with their wallets. No matter how much disdain for Parliament Harper shows, 90% of Canadian voters will not pay attention to anything other than their own entitlements.

The HST issue may raise some ire in BC and Ontario but only because voters believe they are the subject of increased taxation and the target of their ire is provincial.

Harper will offer the usual bribery with our own money to secure a majority before forcing us to pay for the deficit.

a harper win means we all lose, but....I can see the anger at this, but, isn't the wish of the fptp choice majority- no matter how self defeating-isn't this just the people selling out their own kids, grandkids etc? We live in a goofy society it seems. A couple generations after the great war against fascism, a newimproved fascism is the only dog with teeth in the political arena fights, and the big tough men who are hard-hearted indifferent to news about the consequences of harper-like brute policies on others, now stand to suffer themselves (though the newsmedia will somehow blame it elsewhere, and thus succor them, though how that helps i dunno) last week, George (Strombo) on 'The Hour' was interviewing ex London Times editor Sir Harold Evans about the job when Evans told Strombo that ((?) a VIP in Brit media/politics(?)) told him, in response to Evan's anger at something in the news that had been misunderstood, that in reality  "News is what someone wants to hide- everything else is advertising!' and poor George nearly had a fit, frantically scratching around until he found his tongue and could hurry past the stunning effect of that 'truism'! In that one incident, one can see how things have gotten so bad today that a thugggee like harper is on the verge of dictatorial power.

True.

That's what I was referring to when I mentioned his "arrogance" above.
