Hotel Shinjuku 510’s capsules, no larger than 6 1/2 feet long by 5 feet wide, and not tall enough to stand up in, have become an affordable option for some people with nowhere else to go as Japan endures its worst recession since World War II.

I suppose it's better than nothing, but these places were never meant to live in.

Warehousing people like big box stores warehouse goods.

They want to do the same thing in Vancouver basically, but the "rooms" are a bit larger.

If the alternitive is sleeping on a heating grate or in a bus stop then I think these hotels are a great idea.

$640 a month? That's criminal. The government should make these things free with a zero drug alcohol and violence tollerence policy.

When I was in Tokyo, my hotel room was about that size and cost that amount per NIGHT!

Why free? Why zero tolerance? I understand the violence one but not the drugs and alcohol.
