Obama's War on Yemen

http://www.countercurrents.org/lendman040110.htm

"Yemen is now a new front in America's 'war on terror' under a president who as a candidate promised diplomacy not conflict if elected.

What's at stake? At most Yemen has 4 billion proved barrels of oil reserves and modest amounts of natural gas, hardly a reason for a war. More important is its strategic location near the Horn of Africa on Saudi Arabia's southern border, the Red Sea, its Bab el Mandeb strait (a key chokepoint separating Yemen from Eritrea through which three million barrels of oil pass daily) and the Gulf of Aden connection to the Indian Ocean.."

The Pentagon orchestrated Dec. 25 2009 panty bomber incident serves two purposes:

1. Stir up security hysteria among the Dutch with the idea that they pressure their government so that Dutch troops remain engaged in the current (soon to be passe) Afghan war beyond their announced 2010 disengagement date.

2. Prepare Americans and the rest of the world for the next war - the Yemen war.

The Yemen Hidden Agenda Behind the Al Qaeda Scenarios: A Strategic Oil Transit Chokepoint

http://globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=16786

"In addition to its geopolitical position as a major global oil transit chokepoint, Yemen is reported to hold some of the world's greatest untapped oil reserves. Yemen's Masila Basin and Shabwa Basin are reported by international oil companies to contain 'world class discoveries'...Some fifteen years ago I was told in a private meeting with a well informed Washington insider that Yemen contained 'enough undeveloped oil to fulfill  world demand for the next fifty years.

Perhaps there is more to Washington's recent Yemen concern than rag-tag al Qaeda whose very existence as a global terror organization has been doubted by seasoned Islamic experts."

Frustrated Mess Frustrated Mess's picture

Quote:

A headline in the Paris press says “The CIA and U.S Special Forces lend a powerful hand to the government of Yemen.” The front page headline in today’s International Herald Tribune says “Yemen corruption blunts Qaeda fight.” This report explains that the Yemeni president’s government “is filled with members of his family and he wants to ensure that his son, Ahmed, 38, succeeds him.” The story goes on to say that “the economy has collapsed, with oil revenues down and oil and water running out.” This is the American-allied regime.

At the end of last year we read about allegations of corruption in Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s own family, and the results of a national election were challenged as falsified. The president of Afghanistan has just ordered the nation’s parliament back from vacation in order to vote on his new cabinet nominees. These are to take the place of 17 of his 24 previous cabinet appointments, all rejected by parliament. Mr. Karzai is, of course, the man the United States put in place in Kabul to bring democracy to Afghanistan, so as to save it from the Taliban and al Qaeda.

No American who witnessed the waltz of U.S. Senators with the health industry’s lobbyists during the ongoing effort to legislate health reform in the U.S. is in a position to be condescending about foreign corruption. If the United States has an occupying army which put in place, or sustains, the Afghan, Pakistani or Yemen government, then the ordinary citizen in those countries will Americans and NATO as sources of their nation’s corruption, and perhaps the main one.

US, NATO Expand Afghan War to Horn of Africa and Indian Ocean

http://rickrozoff.wordpress.com/

"In parallel with the escalation of the war in South Asia - counterinsurgency operations in Afghanistan and drone missile attacks in Pakistan - the United States and its NATO allies have laid the groundwork for increased naval, air and ground operations in the Horn of Africa and the Gulf of Aden.

The Pentagon's publicly disclosed military and security program for Yemen grew from $4.6 million in 2006 to $67 million last year. That figure does not include covert, classified assistance that the US has provided.

In addition, 'under a new classified cooperation agreement, the US would be able to fly cruise missiles, fighter jets or unmanned drones against targets in the country, but would remain publicly silent on its role in the airstrikes.'"

Clearly there should be more substantive discusions in the now shuttered whorehouse of commons than just the detainee issue -thankfully brought to our  attention  by the personable  high ranking intelligence officer from Washington. I hope all there and I do mean all realize that their exposure to serious war crimes is something that may very well become an active file in a future perhaps not so very far forward.

The Airplane Bomb Plot: Obama Continues the Cover-Up

Obama's Yemeni Odyssey Targets China

"The US has signaled that the odyssey doesn't end with Yemen. It is also moving into Somalia and Kenya. With that, the US establishes its military presence in an unbroken stretch of real estate all along the Indian Ocean's western ring. Chinese officials have of late spoken of their need to establish a naval base in the region. The US has now foreclosed China's options.

The only country with coastline that is accessible for China to set up a naval base in the region will be Iran.

Obama's main core objective will be to establish an enduring military presence in Yemen. This serves many purposes."

There you go. As soon as I heard the incident, I have argued that it has the Pentagon's fingerprints all over it. And that it's purpose is to whip up security hysteria and to get the Dutch to pressure their government to have their troops stay in Afghanistan beyond 2010 and to try and sell escalating American involvement in the Yemen war within the U.S. and elsewhere.

White phosphorus, lovely. It's been used a lot lately. In Fallujha, Iraq, in Afghanistan, in Gaza by Israel during its 2009 war. This is where it's been known to be used. Who knows about Somalia, etc.

Even their own rule books of correct murder methods have been set aside in favour of letting the free market decide as it were. And since Al Capone uses it all his demi devils will too. The results we can see all around us. As for a process of international enforcement of even the disgusting concept of 'the rules of warfare' to prevent or  regulate the use of such things as DU, white phosphorus, flechettes, cluster bombs, landmines - this has gone by the boards bigtime.

The place to start would be Israel's barbarics in Palestine and Gaza. As Sunera Thobani pointed out recently a successful war crimes prosecution there could then lead onwards and upwards towards our own war criminals and even bigger gangsters. Could be a good project for the NDP perhaps...?  I'm not serious of course but then neither are they.

Since the Criminals themselves control the process - there really isn't one. So we're back to the nitty gritty of the problem.

I think improvement might come surprisingly fast if any real efforts by concerned citizens in any kind of numbers, put their hearts and minds to it.

My own humble  suggestion would simply be that proffered by an old MAC PAP vet upon being asked what might be a salutary tonic to the political funk under our kind of government and corporate rule and his suggestion on  effective ways to 'get the ball rolling' as it were, was to "hang a politician every Friday".

jokeys of course...but its a start

The U.S.A.'s military industrial complex and the Pentagon make all the latest hi tech weapons and give them to Israel for "R&D". "Made in the U.S.A. Tested by Israel" with Israel's perpetual wars. Obama in Aden

http://leninology.blogspot.com/2010/01/obama-in-aden.html

"One thing it ISN'T about is 'Al Qaida.'The radical Sunni militias that helped the north to victory in 1994 may have turned against their former allies, and there may be organisations there dedicated to attacking  US interests in the Middle East, however to characterise such groups as 'Al Qaida' is to buy into a brand myth.

There is no 'Al Qaeda' in the sense of a coherent movement with a shared organisation, a clear set of goals, and a consistent ideology...

Now the US is committing $70 M to upholding the present Yemen regime and while its back up artillery might take out some graoupuscule leader deemed 'Al Qaida', the basic aims of its funding and military inclination is to defend the regime against far more cohesive opponents...

The result will be to encourage the regime to continue to brutalise and slaugher its opponents - indeed, help them to do so - rather than attempting any reforms that might be necessary to integrate them. The US doesn't care of course...

They want to conserve a pro-American regime in Yemen as a defacto Saudi sattelite, and can't be expected to worry about the petty grievances of those little people  with their absurd ideas about self government and autonomy"

Is Obama Remaking America?

http://canada.mediamonitors.net/content/view/full/70574

"According to Michael Meacher, the British Minister of Environment in PM Tony Blair's Cabinet, the overriding motivation for the War on Terror has been the scarcity of hydrocarbon energy supplies - and the US and UK will run out of sufficient supplies by 2010.

Whereas the Islamic world will control 60% of the global oil production and equally important, 95% of the remaining oil export capacity.

Minister Meacher concludes that the Global War on Terrorism has the hallmarks of a political myth propagated to pave the way for a wholly different agenda - the US goal of world hegemony built around security by force  and command over the oil supplies required to drive the whole project.

Viewing the global implications of the war on terror, it is becoming clearer that the US Government under President Bush and now continued under President Obama and the UK leadership - coerced others to join the project of terrorism and wars against the Muslim countries - to instigate internal group fighting and political disruptions to destroy the Arabs and Muslims from within.."

US Cluster Bombs Killed 55 in Yemen

AI has obtained photographs which showed remains of the BGM-109D Tomahawk land-attack Cruise Missile. 'This type of missile, launched from a warship or submarine, is designed to carry a payload of 166 cluster sub-munitions (bomblets), which each explode into over 200 steel fragments that can cause injuries up to 150 meters (about 500 feet) away,' an AI statement said.

'An incendiary material inside the bomblet also spreads fragments of burning zirconium designed to set fire to nearby flammable objects '[children!], it added.

The more American and Canadian political leaders divert resources into the invasion of  foreign lands & the murder of their populations, the more resentment is built and the more military counter-resistence is created (call it al-Qaeda or whatever).  Whatever good will the west has created is being destroyed.  Rather than offering an example of a propserous, liberal and civil society, we are exporting death and anarchy and in doing so are only helping to provide fuel to fundamentalists who wish to stop at nothing short of the destruction of their foes (and THEIR populations).  It is not a fight for freedom, but the exact opposite.
