Frustrated Mess
A headline in the Paris press says “The CIA and U.S Special Forces lend a powerful hand to the government of Yemen.” The front page headline in today’s International Herald Tribune says “Yemen corruption blunts Qaeda fight.” This report explains that the Yemeni president’s government “is filled with members of his family and he wants to ensure that his son, Ahmed, 38, succeeds him.” The story goes on to say that “the economy has collapsed, with oil revenues down and oil and water running out.” This is the American-allied regime.
At the end of last year we read about allegations of corruption in Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s own family, and the results of a national election were challenged as falsified. The president of Afghanistan has just ordered the nation’s parliament back from vacation in order to vote on his new cabinet nominees. These are to take the place of 17 of his 24 previous cabinet appointments, all rejected by parliament. Mr. Karzai is, of course, the man the United States put in place in Kabul to bring democracy to Afghanistan, so as to save it from the Taliban and al Qaeda.
No American who witnessed the waltz of U.S. Senators with the health industry’s lobbyists during the ongoing effort to legislate health reform in the U.S. is in a position to be condescending about foreign corruption. If the United States has an occupying army which put in place, or sustains, the Afghan, Pakistani or Yemen government, then the ordinary citizen in those countries will Americans and NATO as sources of their nation’s corruption, and perhaps the main one.

The results we can see all around us. As for a process of international enforcement of even the disgusting concept of 'the rules of warfare' to prevent or regulate the use of such things as DU, white phosphorus, flechettes, cluster bombs, landmines - this has gone by the boards bigtime.

Since the Criminals themselves control the process - there really isn't one. So we're back to the nitty gritty of the problem.
I think improvement might come surprisingly fast if any real efforts by concerned citizens in any kind of numbers, put their hearts and minds to it.
My own humble suggestion would simply be that proffered by an old MAC PAP vet upon being asked what might be a salutary tonic to the political funk under our kind of government and corporate rule and his suggestion on effective ways to 'get the ball rolling' as it were, was to "hang a politician every Friday".

The more American and Canadian political leaders divert resources into the invasion of foreign lands & the murder of their populations, the more resentment is built and the more military counter-resistence is created (call it al-Qaeda or whatever). Whatever good will the west has created is being destroyed. Yemen's embattled, U.S.-backed president said Tuesday that a military coup would lead to civil war, and he pledged to step down by year's end but not hand power to army commanders who have joined the opposition.
"Any dissent within the military institution will negatively affect the whole nation," President Ali Abdullah Saleh said in a nationally televised warning to a meeting of Yemen's Supreme Council of the Armed Forces. "The nation is far greater than the ambition of individuals who want to seize power."
There was no immediate response from the opposition, which has won the loyalty of influential clergy and tribal leaders, along with the powerful army commanders now calling for Saleh's ouster.
