Who is Tom Flanagan?

This is my MP. Now I know how Alaskans feel.

Although, I have to admit it would be nice to live in a world where everyone didn't know who Tom Flanagan is.

You know, I had a bit of a different take on her performance than the deer-in-the-headlights take most people have had.  Whatever else one says about Shelly Glover, she is a very experienced media spokesperson, having done that job for the police department in your city, if I'm not mistaken, genstrike, before she was elected federally.

I think her terrible performance in that panel was due to the paucity of material she was being given to use by way of talking points by the PMO and party.  Note that she didn't spend a lot of time jumping in and interrupting others, as I've seen her do before, mostly I believe because she was not all that confident in that material herself, and just had a job to do getting the approved talking points out, and wanted to get it over and done with as soon as possible.

That emergency Conservative caucus meeting in Ottawa on Friday January 22 should have some fireworks in it, I bet!

Tom Finaglian? Is he having an affair with Shelley Glover? I'd bet she denies even knowing him.

Yes, she actually is a formidable individual in many ways.  She was able to defeat the Liberals in St. Boniface in the last Federal election and take away a long-time Liberal riding.  I believe she is also fluently bilingual.  So she does appear to have some strengths.

Participating in a debate about prorogation and Tom Flanagan is not one of her strengths, however.

Flanagan is a mentor and guide for Harper, though his credibility is minimized by his extreme, intense and partisan rhetoric which has effectively lead him to publically appear to abandon his pupil only in a soul less gambit to attempt to create narrative that on face appears critical but is actually supportive of Harper.

Its these types, Flanagan-dad and his Harper-son, that create cynicism of political process, and thrive on polarization and, ironically, given their odd, but strangely often vague, extreme political and cultural perspecitves, that fret about some power holding sway over them and their 'rights', they always seek power themselves, insatiably, and diabolically strategically and ruthlessly.

Thats who Flangan is.

Read this most excellent and obscenely well researched and nuanced Walrus article to find out more (distasteful and troubling) things about Flangan, philisophical dad to his son, Harper:

Plausible denability at work....and lies as truth and truth as lies....

Of course she knows who Flanagan is.....

I never took this about being dumb, but rather playing to the home team.  Most normal Canadains (and by that I mean those people unlike us who don't follow every burp uttered by someone connected with politics) do not follow this stuff so closely and would rightly not know who the heck he is.  She was saying- move on, nothing to see here.  She did it very poorly, but that was what was going on.

I think she was feigning ignorance of Flanagan to give the impression that his word carries no more weight than any other Canadian. Of course, it didn't work, but I doubt that she came up with that strategy on her own.

It was probably Flanagan's strategy  in the first place... :D

With a recommendation like that, you can be sure I ignored it.

That entire post was pretty high on the dumb scale.
