I haven't picked up on any bias from Bob Cole; he's just not a very good play-by-play announcer.  My kid kept asking last Saturday, "Why does he always tell us the score?"

Ha. It's 'cause he comes from radio. That's one of the things I like about Bobby Cole--his old-timey-ness warms my nostalgic cockles. As for his bias, perhaps you haven't noticed it because you share the same (blue & white) prejudices? Kind of like me when I watch Wes Anderson or Noah Baumbach movies. If you found yourself nodding soberly when Bob Cole was explaining how, pound for pound, Darcy Tucker is the best forward in the NHL, maybe it's time for some reevaluation...

So, are major penalties, not just suspensions, the solution to the head-shot problem?

Probably--suspensions don't really seem to work (Cormier, incidentally, has changed his mind and is appealing the "too harsh" CHL suspension) because it turns into a league vs team situation, where the management has to support the player. Until the refs start enforcing standards on the ice, I imagine it won't seem real to the players.

In light of the Cormier incident it is interesting to see how football handles injuries.

Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo has been banned for two Spanish league games for breaking an opponent's nose.

The Spanish soccer federation fined Ronaldo US$843 Tuesday for "dangerous play that caused harm."
