To see if a poster is a lady, listen for the rustle of her crinolines, or inquire discreetly from her father.

I just know that Timebandit is a woman - she's been posting here for years.  It isn't the gender that's the issue in this case.

kropotkin1951

Yup and when she has problems with authority she gets free stuff.  So I must be lying

No, kropotkin, I don't don't think you're lying.  But I do wonder if your "complaining" came in the form of shouting, swearing, violent arm gestures, pacing or other intemperate reactions to frustration.  Note that I "wonder", which is different from saying I know one way or the other.

I'm not lying, either.  I travel a fair bit and run into airline issues from time to time.  I have gotten flight credits and other compensations when there were baggage or booking issues or other customer service issue.  It's not the act of complaining, it's how you do it.

ETA:  Yes, I'm female.  I've been posting here for 9 years, and some have picked up the odd clue over the years.  Wink

kropotkin1951

Nope it is what you are complaining about if yoju are not docile then you are in danger

Michelle

I think there is a difference between being docile, being assertive, and being aggressive.

I noticed the pinkish hue.

As to kropotkin's comment about Air Canada staff, it's ATSA that does the profiling, not the airline.  Don't be rude when you go through security, that's all.  I make a point of being sweet as can be already, so no skin off my nose.  Although I expect that the "suspicious behaviour" profiling will be used less discriminately than it should be.

I have already seen Air Canada try to get other authorities involved when people were disgruntled.  They will go to the nearest security supervisor and tell them this person is a problem and they should investigate them.

A few years ago when I was in a lineup that Air Canada was blaming on security while Westjet passengers were not suffering delays. (Air Canada had a baggage conveyor problem.]  I told an Air Canada supervisor and I quote;  "the problem is with Air Canada it has nothing to do with Osama Bin Laden."  The supervisor started yelling at me that I was a threat and went and got an Ottawa City cop to arrest me.  Fortunately for me I was surrounded by people who had heard my statement and when the cop asked them what I said they all agreed that I had said the above statement.  I was allowed on the plane that time but who knows in the future.  The moral of the story is that all good citizens should keep their mouths shut and never complain.

I was polite in this thread entitled Air Paranoia.  Given that I had already related the story to her I stand by the fact that she called me a liar when this time she said there must be more to the story.  She can be as disingenuous as she wants to be but I had already explained the story to her in particular.

I didn't call you a liar - I said that this was not my experience, IIRC.

I don't catalogue every thread I've participated in, and really didn't remember the discussion you're losing your hair over.

I am not, btw, passive.  I'm very assertive, but there are better ways of dealing with frustration than getting aggressive.

when you say Air Canada tried to arrest you for complaining about baggage delays, I suspect there was more to the story.  When I do it, they give me free stuff.

You dismissed my concerns twice as my fault or the fault of anyone else who wants to speak in public.  First in the other thread and then again on exactly the same topic in this thread.

I guess I should just rely on my inherent privilage to get me through life because good people like you have no problems with authority only nasty people with bad manners. Yup your better way of dealing with people is to dismiss anyones experience except your own and tell them if they had a problem it was there fault.

You responded to me directly after the above post and that was two weeks ago.  Your silencing technique will not work even if you want to be passive now.

No, that's inaccurate.  I said that if you provoked such a strong reaction, perhaps part of the issue is how you did it.  I notice you haven't directly addressed that, other than to call me a lying asshole.

I suspect that part of my success is that I'm a middle-aged white woman who is a frequent enough customer.  But it's also very difficult to threaten me with arrest because I make a point of staying calm, getting names and minding my manners.  Freaking on someone feels good in the moment but isn't so good for getting results.

I'm not interested in silencing you.  Post away.  I still don't think you've given us the whole story, and I'd be interested in hearing it.

One person's paranoid raving is another's fact.

If you fly off the handle at airports the way you do here...

What isn't clear about this story?  What are you trying to say about me when you keep insisting this is not the whole story.  And yes as a white woman, frequent traveler you can bat your eyelashes to get what you want.  You see the reason I am upset is that I only told this agent what I quoted above I did not say it aggressively I stated a fact and he tried to have me arrested. But go ahead tell me again you just know the story I have told you is inaccurate.  But hey that is different that calling me a liar.

Michelle

Hi, can you also not call people's posts "paranoid raving," al-Q?  That would be fabulous.

Since this seems to have descended into bickering, it looks like we've probably talked the subject out, so I'll close this.
