New EI claimaints failing to receive payment on time

This is bad news not just in itself, but for what it says about the numbers of people applying for EI and the lack of preparedness on the part of the Harper government. It seems they really did believe what they were saying about the economic fundamentals being stong.

Complaints are being received from the newly jobless that they are
being told they must wait longer than the usual 28 days to receive any
assistance from the employment insurance program.

That means workers who are handed pink slips next week may not receive their first cheque until early February.

A spokeswoman for Service Canada - the one-stop agency that is the
interface between the federal government and Canadians - said that,
during the second week of December, 82.3 per cent of EI claims were
processed within 28 days.

But when The Globe and Mail called Service Canada yesterday, the
worker answering the phone said the time required to process EI
applications had stretched from 28 to 40 days.

That's what the banana Republicans are all about: Sabotage the system, deliberately and completely, so that the people most dependent upon it are so angry that they'll cheer when you shut it all down.

When the heck did it change to 28 days?  I thought it was supposed to be TWO weeks.

This should be a major issue for Parliament to debate  -  oh, right, it was prorogued.

I waited almost 2 months to get my EI approved. Worse yet, they only gave me 28 weeks, which is up in January. When I called to ask them why I only received 28 weeks, they said it was "because of my area". No idea what that meant. I asked and got no solid answer.

The only option left is an Appeal, which will take 30 plus days and a lawyer or paralegal.

Bastards have all of our money and don't want to give us a dime but there is always money for corporations.

I really really hate Harper and the Conservatives.

What it means is that you live in an area with below-average unemployment. In theory, that means you wouldn't need benefits as long before you get another job, so you aren't given benefits for as long as someone somewhere else.

They aren't to blame for this, however. This is a policy that was introduces with the EI "reforms" under Jean Chretien.

Oh I know.....but I love to blame everything on harper. It makes me feel good. Innocent

So they expect that I'll find a good job somewhere in Scarborough? Maybe at one of the large box malls making 60 percent less than what I was previously making?

That is some screwed up shit right there.

I finnaly got a phone call from EI , i'm 35days of waiting for them. and they said thier working on 50 to 60 day old files so i'm going to have to wait a few more weeks. and to use other resources like the food bank.

i live 45 min from edmonton. i'm out of gas money , can't even go in for job interviews. my wife's income is bearly paying the mortgage, daycare, food.

we some how were able to pay all bills last month except one creditcard, which now all 5 of my creditcards are past their limits and about to be over due, there goes my 760 credit rating. 2nd mortgage and car loans payments are due next friday. if EI dosn't get things done by the end of this month. i might lose my house, and the house is cheaper then most 3 bedroom apartments in edmonton.

this is sickening. i've applied to over 50 jobs. but they all want training. or certificates, i don't have. i was making $18 an hour and i think i'm going to have to go for one of those $10 an hour jobs, that will put my wife and i in more debt then we're in.

the GOV'T has no probelm spending millions on gun registations, and other stupid programs that really in the end do nothing. why not put the money into EI and hire many out of work folks to help the rest of us.
