Ripple

Hi Babblers -

(This is actually my second attempt at posting. My first post was witty and clever - you would have loved it. Amongst other failings, I find technology challenging.)

I've been reading the threads here for some time and learn a tonne from them. So, to start, thanks to all the regular posters and especially to the moderators. I generally read the active topics, and also check in at the international news, feminism, anti-racism and aboriginal forums. And any thread about gardening.

A bit about me ... I have been actively involved in the antiwar movement - peripherally involved in women's rights, poverty and housing, and addiction issues - in Vancouver for about 10 years. I've been less involved these last couple of years as I parent two young children. I think I'm strong on commitment and practical effort, not so much on theory. I'm not sure how much I'll post (I'm out of my league - wow, you're a smart bunch), but thought I should say hi at least.

When posting, I'll try to remember that, while I may think I know some of you, you don't know me at all. I'd like to just say, though, that from my perspective on the outside, it does feel like you've built a great community - notwithstanding various difficulties. That, and I think Maysie, oldgoat, and Michelle are rockstars.

Like water, their minds take the form of whatever receptacle oldgoat puts them in. They then lose all recollection that the last time I told oldgoat's lieutenants that I want to give the needy a helping hand as opposed to an elbow in the face, they declared in response, "But the best way to reduce cognitive dissonance and restore homeostasis to one's psyche is to encourage individuals to disregard other people, to become fully self-absorbed." Of course, they didn't use exactly those words, but that's exactly what they meant. Finally, no letter about oldgoat would be complete without mention of some of the entirely sappy schemes that he supports. Although there are a plenitude of examples from which to choose, the most sappy would have to be his proposal to cause riots in the streets. That's the sort of thing that keeps me up at night.

ETA: Some wags have suggested that I utilized a [url=http://www.pakin.org/complaint]random complaint generator[/url] to pen the aforementioned missive. I indignantly rebuff that allegation with the contempt and comprehension that it richly deserts.
