Neon Indian's really cool album "Psychic Chasms"
It reminds me a bit of the Peter, Bjorn and John album "Writer's Block", but is far more reliant on the electronic. A smooth listen, some particularly catchy tracks include 'Should have taken acid wtih you' and 'deadbeat summer'. I'd really suggest getting this album and giving it a listen.
Also of note is Surfer Blood's first(???) album, Astrocoast, which is full of great and crunchy licks. I got hooked on the song 'Catholic Pagans' and haven't looked back.
John Coltrane's Blue Train (1957). Wow, could he blow.
"Let's Just Get Naked" - from the album relish (1995) by Joan Osborne (ex-lead singer for the Grateful Dead). It's loud.
Brian Eno Before and After Science. It is soft.
Eta: I'm now listening to Another Green World by Eno. A mature student lemt them to me yesterday. Turns out we went to the same junior high school at the same time. He is a year older than me.
Martha Wainwright (2005) (self-titled CD) It's a great album, but my ears hurt when she does "Bloody Mother F***ing Asshole". Her version of "Ball and Chain", "This Life", "When The Day Is Short", and "Whither Must I Wander", on the other hand, are sublime, wonderful listening experiences. I have her new album on order, should be here in a few days. I'm in such awe over this musical family - her father, mum, brother, and aunt, and even the extended family are superb musicians.
I stumbled on this video accidentally looking for a live version of Poor Poor Pitiful Me by Warren Zevon, but it is also attached to an absolutely killer cover of Cadillac Ranch. It was one of those 'holy shit!' moments when I heard the song.

I just watched another incredible episode of Elvis Costello's "Spectacle" on CTV - last year he had the best concert performance ever from Rufus Wainwright and his mum Kate McGarrigle, and tonight he has Jesse Winchester singing "The Brand New Tennessee Waltz" - one of my my favourite songs, ever - I saw Winchester perform it live at Ottawa's Le Hibou coffee house on Sussex around 1970. Lots of memories flooding back tonight.
Also on the program with Elvis were Sheryl Crow (she was great!), Neko Case, and Ron Sexsmith.
Sheryl Crow IS amazing. Thanks! That'll be my next selection, Boom Boom! She does an amazing version of Cohen's Hallelujah.

Yeah, I like it too! I'll also be looking for Madison Avenue. They seem amazing! I found that version of Reminiscing while looking for a rap song with the licks and chorus from that song sampled in it. Never found the rap song, but that one's great!
We've been playing some of Heart's live stuff now, like Mother Earth Blues/You Shook Me and Unchained Melody. Which of course "Led" us to Zeppelin's You Shook Me. (It's like, Heart's a gateway drug to Zeppelin.)
radiorahim just played Back on the Chain Gang by the Pretenders and now he's playing Perfect by Fairground Attraction. I hadn't heard that last one before I met him, but I'm hooked!

Michelle, my last gf lived in Winchester, Virginia, birthplace of Patsy Cline, and I spent a summer there, and have a couple of Patsy Cline souvenirs from my visit to her birth home and the store built around it. Winchester is a beautiful small city, home to the Annual Apple Blossom Festival, and probably the longest summer parade in the world of fire trucks. I have her Greatest Hits album and play it often.
Speaking of Winchester, I've seen Jesse Winchester perform live in a small venue almost 40 years ago and hearing him again last night makes me want to build up my collection of Jesse Winchester albums (I have four).
Can anyone recommend which Sheryl Crow album to buy? She sang "Leaving Las Vegas" last night, but I don't have any desire to hear it again. She's a beautiful woman - almost reminds me of the young Joni Mitchell - with a great singing voice, but I'd like to hear her on some better lyrics.
