Sask NDP "You Bet We Can"

Gotcha politics seems to be the norm these days.  Policy has left by the back door.  An interesting issue has arisen about double dipping and it seems to have slapped the Sask NDP rather hard.

Ole' Link, New Double Dipper, this is not fair, he is entitled to his entitlements. It was his own NDP MLAs -- like Kevin Yates, Len Taylor, Kim Trew, Warren McCall, Ron Harper, Pat Atkinson and David Forbes -- who in 2008 (during debate on the Superannuation Act) railed on that the practice of ex-civil servants double-dipping on their pensions, after returning to work and drawing government salaries, needed to stop.

The issue is that the NDP in 2008 made a very big stink about double dipping. A huge issue for them. Now that one of their own, Glorious Leader, is receiving the very benefit they raised cane over are now silent. Typical NDP dogma, everyone is equal except some are more equal than others.

Myself, I could care less if he double dips, I know lots of teachers, nurses, executives etc. who do that. The issue is where is the consistency in policy

But Lingenfelter said provincial pension officials told him he couldn't suspend his MLA pension - earned through his previous 20-year stint in public office - when he was re-elected in 2009.

You are right NR.  I see no problem with him keeping his pension, he earned it, just as many others have.  The problem as I and many see is on one hand others are directly criticized in public about doing the exact thing he is doing and he is not receiving the same rebuke by those doing the criticizing.  The optics are bad.  Some are more equal than others.

Someone distracting from the deficit, much?

Ken Burch

Of course, the slogan could just mean the party believes in preserving fruit and vegetables in Kerr jars for the winter.

Edmundoconnor, FYI. Not deflecting from the deficit, but questioning the hypocrasy on the double standards of double dipping. NDP governments in Man. and N.S. are running true deficits with no rainy day fund/savings account to balance the books. This is a true deficit, where money is being borrowed from the investment community to pay for the spending of the governments.

Yes, the Sask Party screwed up on their projections, shame on them, Gantefor is not the brightest within the cabinet. They did however put actual money away into a saving account (not a line of credit) to smooth out rough periods.

These little attempts at smearing someone is an all too often right-wing tactic to divert attention away from the big picture.

Good thing the SASK NDP had money ahead in gov coffers, so they could salt it away, if they have, in order to buy the votes they need...oops, feed those who want to belly up to trough and assuring them the money is there for them, oops...fund programs without making cuts, at a later, or current date.
