The BC HST [tax] is going to hurt people. Premier Campbell is hoping we swallow it, but it would be a shame on us if we do. There are other ways to pay for this government's mismanagement of the budget. Most of us would prefer carrying a little more debt for a few years... money can be found in lots of places, we have to force them to go looking at least, instead of allways coming to the lower and middle income citizens for it. Tax the derivatives or something.
Former B.C. premier Bill Vander Zalm is aiming to get rid of the tax by forcing the province to hold an initiative vote on the issue, but first, he needs to collect thousands of signatures on a petition supporting his draft bill.
So far, the veteran campaigner has signed up nearly 2,000 volunteers from ridings across B.C. to help him collect the estimated 300,000 voter signatures required to trigger an initiative vote, which is similar to a referendum.
The tax will raise the price of just about everything we spend money on - the basics as well as the discretionary.
There is going to be cuts to education, health care, and other public services including environmental protection and monitoring, and welfare. The lower income people are once againg getting hit the hardest.
I intend to sign the petition, will you?
