..i attended this rally. coalitions are not new to vancouver. there were awesome ones built in the mid 80's during our solidarity days. around 40 of us took over the premier's vancouver office and held it for 24 hrs. jim sinclair the bc fed pres was in on it as well representing fish. there were 3 of us from cupw.
..so now what i look for is where is this movement going. this coalition would be a welcome addition to an even broader coalition that includes the forces that came together during the olympics. the future was not discussed though. my fear is that it will turn into a vote ndp thing and nothing else. time tells all. the global struggle we face needs so much more..like a new political and economic system. participatory democracy has a nice ring to it.

Kudos; it's a great start. These groups -- social/environmental/health, etc -- all have legitimate concerns and raise necessary public awareness about various issues.

But then where does the movement go? Come election time in certain provinces (Alberta being one of them), progressive voters the still split the vote.

(When these groups start working towards a political alliance and not just a "protest" one, I'll start believing.)
