Fat dogs forced to watch thin dogs have sex

No one wants to have sex with a fat dog. That's the solid premise behind some diet-dog-food ads from Prolam Y&R in Chile. Check out three ads here. "Life's hard when you're a fat dog," says the tagline, as the chubby pooches watch sadly at slimmer compatriots getting some action. We've seen fat dogs humiliated in diet-dog-food ads before. At least the mutts here don't have flowers sticking out of their butts. Via Adland.

It's interesting. Because they're animals, they can make the ads as fat-phobic as they want. Not that advertisers have shied away from making fat jokes about people, of course, but they can really go over the top if an animal is the butt of the joke (no pun intended if you looked at that ad at the link with the flower in the dog's butt).

And another thing is that they completely anthropomorphize the animals in the ads, so they're basically making "fat people" jokes but using dogs as stand-ins for the "people". Because fat dogs don't watch sadly when skinny dogs have sex - fat dogs are most likely just as able to have sex while in heat as thin ones. That's a human fat joke, not an animal one, it was just told with dogs instead of people. So that people who might feel guilty about mocking fat people feel like it's safer to laugh at this because it's not about people, it's about dogs.

But really, it's ultimately about making it okay to laugh at fat people - because these dogs are given human traits in these ads and are basically treated as "people".

Interesting how those two dogs on the left in the picture above have independently invented the missionary position. They have their own position, named for them, and they want to do it old skool?

That's a good point. Their hips aren't made for it, but they'll figure that out.

Really though, I'm sure a bigger concern for dogs would be "Dog whose ass doesn't smell just right forced to watch dogs with proper smelling asses have sex". That's the harsh reality.
