Pro-Zionist media bias

Today on As it Happens, for the story on Helen Thompson, the CBC spoke only to a Zionist who, of course, accused her of anti-semtism. For the story on the cargo seized illegally by Israeli terrorists on the high-seas and now refused by Hamas, the CBC needed only to speak to the Israeli Foreign Affairs spokesman. No need to speak to anyone else. Nothing to see here; move along.

ETA: It strikes me Helen Thompson lost her career for her words no matter how ill-considered they were. But the Editor-in-Chief and Washington lobbyist produces a video the KKK would be proud of and not a peep from anyone. That contemptuosly racist woman is still welcome at the White House. Moral cowardice is a hallmark of Western governments since well before the Jewish holocaust.

She's Helen Thomas.

I shut off the radio when that yahoo said that Israel has a 5,000 year-old right to exist. I'm pretty good at history, but I can't think of any contemporary state that was around 5,000 years ago.

Except for her having said them in the belly of the Rapturebeast, I don't see why Thomas' comments are considered so outrageous. They're no worse than a 12th-century scribe saying that the Crusaders should go back to Anjou and Saxony.

Hey I agree with you. But when I say this:

All settlers and their descendants should just leave Turtle Island and go back home to England and france and China and india etc

...well everyone loses their minds!

Apparently a veteran White House reporter was forced to retire for saying the jews should 'get the hell out of Palestine'

I'm getting a little fed up with this Medusan policy thrust upon ANYONE who dares say anything against Israel...Even if it's the stone cold truth.

At an event celebrating Jewish heritage at the White House on May 27, Thomas was captured on video remarking that Jews in Israel should "get the hell out of Palestine" and "go back to Poland, Germany, America and everywhere else."

I knew there was a reason I liked her.

I didn't know you like ethnic cleansing and mass expulsion of people for no other reason than their religion. I guess you learn something new about people every day. I wonder what she meant about Jews going back to Poland - was that as in they should have been in the crematoria of Auschwitz and Treblinka?

al-Qa'bong

They may lose their minds, but they certainly stop short of calling you an antisemite.

al-Qa'bong

You make as much sense as that yahoo who was on As It Happens tonight.  He said pretty well the same thing.

I guess telling 6 million Israeli Jews to all move to Germany or Poland is a bit of step up from advocating driving them all into the sea. We're making progress.

I've yet to get a coherent answer from a Zionist why the Palestinians were ethnically cleansed for the crimes of genocidal European anti-Semites.

An answer, that is, that doesn't use their religious ideology to justify that (ongoing) ethnic cleansing.

One could almost believe she was put up to saying such things at a time like this. Her ugly nonsense and its timing is a gift of great price to the pro-Zionist forces...she has apologized but it's the worst kind of thing and a real setback to building inroads of progressive awareness and support in North America at this crucial time. In any case, she speaks for nobody but herself and whatever corporate media [or ?] that pays her.

Thomas mentioned North America too.  What's the matter, don't you want Jewish neighbours?

All your hysteria aside, how is this different from a 12th-century Damascene wishing that the Angevins and Saxons would go back to where they came from?  I suppose opponents of the Crusaders were antisemites as well?

I think that an American political reporter in Washington in 2010 with no personal ties to Palestine should be held to a higher standard than a "12th century Damascene". In any case, I'm not accusing Helan Thomas of being anti-semitic. I'm sure she's not and that she probably has lots of Jewish friends. But what she said was totally unacceptable and indefensible and only does damage to the cause of the people she supports. Apparently she's of Lebanese descent - so what is she doing living on Native Indian land in the United States?? Why doesn't she just move back to Lebanon where her ancestors were from? Isn't that the logical extension of what she's saying.

I agree that people have said things just as bad as what she said but directed at Muslims without facing the same repercussion and that's unfortunate - there should be zero-tolerance for these views no matter who they are directed against.

If she had even simply said that all Israelis should get out of the occupied territories and go back to Israel proper - I'd have no problem with that - but her comments only bring embarrassment to the cause of critics of Israel who are trying to fight against being stigmatized as anti-semitic.

Long thread. I'm sure the discussion will continue.
