Pixies: Terrorist Organization

Get your passports ready folks the Fascist are here: Canadian Government to put Pixies on list of "terrorist" organisations

Where is my Mind

al-Qa'bong

Quote:

Immigration Minister Jason Kenney told reporters today, “Terrorism anywhere and in any form, whether it be physical, moral, verbal, mental or cultural is abhorrent to this government.”

Another supporter of the move was Peter Kent, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (Americas), who said in an interview, “If the Pixies want to boycott Israel, then Canada is at war with the Pixies.”

No, this is not from The Onion.

Cytizen H

I could have guessed Kenney was behind this. This is just sick. "cultural terrorism"? What does that even mean??!! Time to dust off the old Pixies records, I guess.

Could be just an internet rumour, however, I would not put it past these guys. They are that backward. Peter Kent, at one time was a daring young stringer who delivered reports from American occupied Vietham, now he's a stooge for idiocy.

Michelle

What, what, what?  This is absolute off-the-deep-end stuff!  They have to be kidding!

Come on.  It's April 1st, right?

Just when you thought the Conservatives couldn't possibly sink beneath the lowest horizon of contempt ... they surprise you again with their pearls of antideluvian wisdom. Drinks all around.

I've cracked my first Race Rocks Ale anyway.

Michelle

I don't know Cueball -- Larry Haiven is credible.  But it's just so off the deep end that it's hard to believe!

There's THIS incendiary piece about "cultural terrorism" but nothing from the GoC that I can see.

I have always loved the Pixies. I never thought they would actually be politically relevant to anything. Guess I was wrong.

Canada's at war with the Pixies?

I would have thought the Ents to be much more of a threat.

"Stooge for Idiocy" would make a great t-shirt slogan, btw.

And I'd be interested to know what "moral" terrorism is. Like what the Harper government is doing?

al-Qa'bong

Yahoo News has an article on this.

It's possible that they picked it up off someone's blog, though.

"Cultural Terrorism", sounds way too much like something dreamed up by the Cheka.

Michelle

Personally, I think terrorism, moral or otherwise, is shooting people in the feet, forcing them to remain in their bloody clothes for three days, and then while deporting them, forcing them to hobble to the plane without crutches or wheelchairs and beating anyone who tries to help them walk.

But that's just me.

Somebody send Larry H an e mail and get to the bottom of things.

RP.

I called Larry Haiven, it's a hoax.  He confirmed that he wrote it; that the first part was true, whereas the stuff from various minister was merely "truthy".  :)

Maysie Maysie's picture

Damn... I was all riled up for a moment there.

Tongue out

Michelle

Ha!  We just did too - rr's chatting with him now.  And yep, it's satire. :D

N.Beltov N.Beltov's picture

Yea, well I've already cracked one ale, and all ... Save the ales! Save the ales!

Green Grouch

Yeah, I'm picking up the same call in the blogosphere. Says a lot about Clark Kent and this govn't that it was semi believable for five minutes tho.

RP.

I would describe this as gigantic.  A big, big, hoax.

Cueball Cueball's picture

Ahh ok, I can go back to sleep now. Thanks for helping out.

Michelle

The best satire is when it's just slightly over the top and makes you wonder whether it's true or not!  Haha!  Good one. :D

Yeah just got off the phone with Larry...he's an old friend...and he does sometimes have a wicked sense of humour.

The quote from Shuki Weiss about cultural terrorism though is apparently accurate.

Thing is that since the Conservative cabinet has basically become the Canadian branchplant of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs this kind of satire is completely believable.

Unless they are talking about Aaron Spelling, there's no such thing as a "cultural terrorist".

Cytizen H

I would argue that being forced to listen people discuss the ending of "Lost" could be described as cultural terrorism.

Oh I don't know, there is still Celine Dion... home grown terrorist.

Oh there's worse home grown cultural terrorists than Celine Dion:

I posted this on my eldest daughter's wall at faceshnook today, saying "here's that video you were going on about liking so much".

She's 27.

Never heard the Pixies, myself. What are they - folk, rock, pop, what?

RP.

They're college rock from about 25 years ago.  To my mind, the best introduction to what they're about would be the song Debaser.

Thanks, don't know how I missed them - unless it's because I haven't been inside a college in 30 years.

Oh my god, you are so cruel.  :D :D  Even my 11 year-old son can't stand Justin Bieber!  Around our place, we call Bieber "The Bieblet" because I heard it on Q a while back and thought it was an excellent nickname for him.  My son has now picked it up too.

Please don't do that.
